I agree! I love Jeff Goldblum--(don't worry Vincent, you are still first in my heart.. )--he's always a treat. His forte is "the quirkiest guy in the room". (Just imagine JG and VDO in the sharing a scene...)

I'm just worried that the fickle hearted NBC exec's are trying to replace our quirky Detective Goren with this guy.

This show sounds like Medium Meets Robert Goren. Maybe the fickle folks at NBC have already decided to kill, as in replace, two birds with one stone with this single JG entry into the fall sweepstakes.
I will give Raines a look-see on Thursday, just to satisfy my curiosity.

Seems to me more like monk meets medium, or if the psych guy was really a psych.

If anyone is interested, you can participate in a live blog with Jeff Goldblum and Raines creator Graham Yost immediately after the East coast airing of tonight's premiere, around 11PM ET.

So did anyone else watch? I found it to be "meh" at best and really lame and annoying at worst. And that is despite my long-standing Secret Boyfriend relationship with Jeff Goldblum It just felt flat to me and I didn't find the crime story aspect at all interesting. The jarring and wildly diverse background music was really distracting, it felt like they took a sample of music from every cop show in the history of ever and tossed something different in each scene. Husband and I immediately predicted the "mystery" of his partner. That last tiny scene in the cemetary when he deadpans to the grave digger about how the dead will rise and eat brains was the highlight of the whole show. I cracked up laughing. It almost made the rest of the hour worthwhile

Hi SarahIvy,
I felt the same way. I told my husband about 20m into it, I bet his partner is dead. My husband said it seemed like Monk meets the Dead Zone. I like the end the best when he gives the money to the mom, puts the CD and listens to the song, and then the graveyard scene. The rest is blah, Might watch it once more, but don't see it as a CI replacement for sure.

Guess Sarah and I are the only ones who watched, or it wasn't impressive enuff to discuss, lol. Well, this sounds incredibly juvenile of me. but I will be honest here. I do not want to add one single solitary rating to a show that I am afraid is slated to replace CI.

If CI gets canceled, it won't be because of Raines. It isn't that good or funny.

Thanks, ragin...you know how to make a girl feel better! BTW, anybody know how it did ratings wise? Just curious. The more the new shows do badly, the better chance CI has of getting renewed.

Ratings haven't been released yet, but people might have tuned in to see what it was about, it will be the viewing of the second show that will tell, I know I probably won't be watching.

I watched the Raines premiere and liked it enough to come back for a second helping this week. I liked the California Dreamin' noir look and feel to the show, but remain ambivalent as to whether it's a real or perceived threat to CI's renewal.
The Raines premiere finished third in its time slot, behind ABC's premiere of its new show October Road (which benefited from the huge Grey's Anatomy lead-in). In second place in the time slot was CBS coverage of the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament. The premiere of new show Andy Barker, PI was the lead-in for Raines, so with that factor plus the special basketball programming, we will have to wait until week 2 (and beyond) to more accurately assess the likelihood of NBC including Raines in its fall schedule.March 15

Thanks for the stats, Techguy! Is it me, or does it not make any sense for NBC to use another pilot as a lead in? I mean, wouldn't it make sense to use an established show with an established audience as a lead in for each of the new pilots? No wonder things are the way they are.
