I was just questioning the word “banishment” it’s a strong word, Prison is a form of banishment, but they do offer schooling, counseling, a weight room , TV, library. . I do believe there is hope for some of the people, that enter into the prison system, not all, but some. And the criminals are monitored while they are in the prison system. When I read the word, banishment the first thought that flashed through my mind was the movie “Escape from NY” , just dumping the criminals off into a wasteland letting them fend for themselves, feeding off of each other, which I don’t think is a good thing. And yes your right the Amish Community along with other cultures do banish some of their people, I just don’t feel it’s the solution to a problem. We tend to ostracize people in our communities, because we feel they are different then us, or we are ticked off at something that happened years ago. I feel that that behavior by us, might, not always, but might, fuel the criminal in their future. I still can hear Charles Manson crying out ….“You made me what I am!!”.....well No, he had a choice, but I don’t think we helped him much either. The ankle bracelet sounds like a wonderful idea, except it reminds me of the RealID card, Big Brother always having a close tab on where we are in life. Sure the criminal needs it, but it just makes me anxious cause someday I feel like they are going to find a reason why I need to wear it As for comparing apples to oranges…… isn’t that what a discussion is all about? Being on 2 different sides of the issue? And sometimes, you just dissect the apple or the orange….other times…you just look at both of them and just wonder how they fit together….and they can fit together, after all an apple and an orange both come from the fruit family. They are just a little different in texture and taste

A RealID card has me concerned, because monitoring the activities and whereabouts of citizens who haven't broken any laws flies in the face of everything the USA is supposed to stand for. And while I concede criminals ought to have basic rights, I'm not at all concerned about monitoring the acitivities and whereabouts of rapists, child molestors--and scum that try to sell a child for money to make home improvements. My kingdom for an ankle bracelet that will give off a taser-like electronic jolting shock to the wearer if any attempt is made to remove or disable it.

Okay, Coultergeist said on Donny Deutsch that she believes Clinton is a latent homosexual because he chases women. I guess he never hit on her skanky ass! Somebody put this wench out of her misery! caseyswife

My poor husband had to listen to me rant and rant about Ann Coulter on Donny Deutsch last night. It's not Coulter in and of herself, because there are plenty of people on the face of this earth just as nasty and hateful as her....it's that she's found this platform that allows her to sprew her vileness out into the universe to such a large audience. The thing that really got me going last night was the implication behind what she was saying, which was essentially: Clinton is promiscuous, therefore Clinton must, in fact, be gay. Which of course is her subtle way of negatively defining all homosexuals as promiscuous. Nevermind her batshit crazy assertion that homosexuality is in essence nothing but pure narcissism because having sex with someone of the same gender obviously means you're in love with yourself. WTF?

The woman is insane... I mean I know she is educated, pretty (?), and popular with the radical right, but she just makes no sense. Whenever I hear one of her little ditties all I can think is: "What planet are you from?? And if you were in fact born on this planet, where do you get your drugs??" She should STFU. (She types, with a nod to DNA!)

Maher, you are too much! Letterman did a thing about what Coulter said - Pretty much said that Clinton told her that he was gay just so she would get away from him! I can believe it... caseyswife

That was good! I heard a quote from the Soup regarding her appearance on the Donny Deutsch show: "It's called the Big Idea, not the Mentally Stable Idea"...

There is a theory that your real personality comes out when you drink.

Did you see Will Ferrell making fun of it on "The Daily Show?" Hilarious! He came out and said he was wasted and thought he was in Malibu - and that he blamed the gay midgets for all of Hollywood's problems and all the wars in the world. He and Jon Stewart were groovin' on it. Didn't Gibson's Dad say something about the Holocaust a few years ago... That it didn't really happen or some crazy crap like that?? caseyswife

WF and JS were very hilarious. Caseyswife, the senior Gibson is one of those people into the denial thing; that the Holocaust never happened. Two years ago, the subject came up during the whole "Passion of the Christ" thing. Mel G said he wouldn't say anything against his father. In any language... Patcat, I've heard similar things. There is an old Eastern saying/poem to that effect (which I can't recall at the moment due to a reduction in my gray matter. )

The supreme irony in Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Booze" fiasco is, the Deputy Sheriff who busted him, James Mee, is Jewish:kutv.com/entertainment/entertainment_story_213105112.htmlDeputy Mee would not comment specifically on Gibson's remarks.
"That stuff is booze talking," the deputy said in an interview outside his home.
"...if you are high-strung person, it's going to amplify that and all the bad things are going to come out." On another note, here's another example in the never-ending list of stupid crooks stories:www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14125521/?GT1=8404A bar waitress checking to see if a woman was legally old enough to drink was handed her own stolen driver's license, which was reported missing weeks earlier, police said.

Gibson's New Gig -- Yom Kippur Keynote Speaker?tmz.com/2006/08/01/gibsons-new-gig-yom-kippur-keynote-speaker/TMZ has obtained a letter from a prominent Los Angeles Rabbi asking Mel Gibson to speak at his temple on Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement.
In the letter, David Baron, the Rabbi for the Temple of the Arts, the largest entertainment industry synagogue in the United States, wrote: "...I wish to invite you to come and speak in order that you might directly express to the Jewish community your remorse. I feel that Yom Kippur, Day of Atonement, would be an appropriate time."
Rabbi Baron added: "In our faith we are commanded to forgive when the offending party takes the necessary steps and offers an apology from the heart."
Rabbi Baron, who recently spent time with Pope Benedict XVI, has had prominent Yom Kippur speakers in the past. Last year, Senator Hillary Clinton spoke on personal forgiveness.
On Tuesday, Gibson acknowledged he made anti-Semitic remarks while under arrest on suspicion of drunk driving. The actor reached out to the Jewish community to "help me on my journey through recovery." Gibson said he was not anti-Semitic but added "I am in the process of understanding where those vicious words came from..."
TMZ contacted Rabbi Baron, who is vacationing in Spain. He said: "Some members of the congregation were skeptical about Mr. Gibson's recent statement and felt he was absolute anti-Semite. My response was 'Better a repentant anti-Semite than an unrepentant anti-Semite.'"
TMZ contacted Gibson's rep who would not comment on the Rabbi's offer.Well to me, it looks like someone from the offended community is trying to understand and forgive Mel Gibson. I think that is pretty cool.

PatCat - with exceptions, I tend to agree that people slur and babble the truth when they are drunk.
Don't know the whole story - but if 1/2 of what is out there has that grain of truth - Mel needs to take whatever the media dishes out until the media gets bored.
