USA is (finally) running episodes from Season 2. I have to admit that this seems to be the most consistently good season of LOCI. It appears the rough spots of the first season were behind the cast and crew, everyone's energy is high, and everyone is comfortable in their roles. I wonder if the combined blows of Kathryn Erbe's pregnancy and her brief departure and Mr. D'Onofrio's illness threw the show out of whack for the third and fourth season. Not that I dislike those seasons--indeed, some of my favorite individual episodes are in them--but the energy level is changed (especially in the third season) and low (especially in the fourth).
In the few episodes we've seen with Mr. D'Onofrio and Ms. Erbe in this fifth season, it appears that the energy level is up again. I noticed it a bit in GROW, even more in PRISONER, and was greatly struck by it in ACTS OF CONTRITION. Indeed, ACTS struck me as an episode that might have come from Season Two, including the interaction with Carver.
Is this wishful thinking on my part? Or does anyone else note this?
Also, in the should be irrelevant category of Mr. D'Onforio's physical appearance: I think he's losing a bit of weight--his shirt collars appeared a bit loose in ACTS. Although I wish he'd let his hair grow a bit--not the wavy thing of WANT, but a little bit, like Season Two.

While I think it’s really great that USA is airing season two I’m a little bit frustrated at their choices for commercial breaks. I wish they would just stick with the “planned” spaces. Did anyone happen to catch “Shandeh” last night? USA actually broke in during Goren’s investigation. It definitely causes a loss of some of the scene’s intensity for the viewers. Patcat, I’ve noticed that Mr. D’Onofrio seems healthier and more energetic this season as well. There’s even a marked difference between “Grow” and “Acts of Contrition”. Mr. D’Onofrio seems more energetic, thinner (in a healthy sort of way), and there is definitely a hair improvement (in my opinion ). The Goren sparkle even seems to be back in his eyes. If this is the result of alternating episodes, well, I for one think it’s worth it. Re-watching seasons one and two the last few weeks has reminded me how much I miss the old Goren. Everyone grows, even characters (or at least they should), but boy was I getting tired of the “been here, done this” Goren. From reading other posts, I gather that I’m not only one who feels this way, right?

LOL i'm glad that i wasnt the only one who noticed that (although i happen to think that the practice of running commersals during the shows should die a horrible death). But i also can't help but be greatful for them to be at least running season 2 eps, i missed most of season 2 because i worked at night back then.
