In my google alerts. Meanwhile, Down at Dealey Plaza ... Mon Nov 24, 2008 at 01:45:53 PM Rostochil is standing to the right of Private Pyle in this photo from 1991 that totally looks as though it was taken in 1963. Photographer Craig Hlavaty spent the 45th anniversary of John Kennedy's assassination down at Dealey Plaza -- so you didn't have to. His slide show from the freak show (kidding, so totally kidding!) is over here. But here's a different view of a familiar landmark: Over on Flickr, Lynne Rostochil today posted some photos from the set of Oliver Stone's 1991 film JFK, in which she played Marilyn Sitzman, who worked with Abraham Zapruder and was by his side while he shot the shooting of the president. And, yes, that's a thin and then-relatively unknown Vincent D'Onofrio, about whom Rostochil writes, he was "gracious and nice and happy to chat with everyone." --Robert Wilonsky blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2008/11/meanwhile_down_at_dealey_plaza.phpflickr.com/photos/25726169@N03

What a lovely picture. Thanks Caitlen. I still find it fascinating that after eight years of LOCI and a slew of films to his credit, VDO is still best known, and being referred to, as "Private Pyle" from "Full Metal Jacket."

I only know Vincent D'Onofrio from his FULL METAL JACKET role. There again, many people only know Jeff from THE FLY, JURASSIC PARK or even INDEPENDENCE DAY!

but Jeff did more Like "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" Very good movie! "Igby Goes Down" and even "Mini's first time" Check them out guys and see it for yourself! But VDO was in Star Wars right? Or maybe I'm confused?!

Ha ha Blum Baby, I think you have confused William Hootkins who played Jek Tono Porkins. Easily done! I'll check out AL's list to see if he has ever appeared in any of the L&O(s).

Yes i know DonnaJo, but he doesn`t like it from what ive read. That's understandable. He wants to break free of that mold, to be known for his other works. The one I knew him before LOCI was the Cell. (I LOOOOOVE that movie.) It is not really good for an actor to be known for just One thing, you know? (well, that is my opinion in any case.)

You are so right hargiteam42, i too loved that movie. As you say, Vincent wants his work of today known, not forever ago. FMJ was brilliant, and he made it his own. He also needs as you say, to break free of that film, and be recognized for all of his work, especially today.

I say this with total love and affection for VDO, that if he desires to be known for his film work from the general movie going public, he must attach himself to a blockbuster film the likes of "Full Metal Jacket." "Men In Black" was a huge film, but no one recognizes VDO as "The Bug." His other film roles were B films or good Indie films. You can't always have it all. VDO's decision to select movie roles for integrity, quality or friendship has cost him something - that elusive movie fame that lesser talents like his buddy Vince Vaughn have. It irks me at times to see Vaughn so famous and starring in such high grossing films when he isn't a better actor than VDO, not by a long shot.

IHMO, Mr. D'Onofrio wants to be known for his BODY of work. He openly admits that FMJ launched his career and that Mr. Kubrick gave him his big break. He's played many memorable characters........he's just such a chameleon that some don't know he's the same guy.

Of course he wants people to remember the film, but not be the only one. He has moved on and up from there, he even got twitchy when Rove went over his old films. Im sure its like a broken record to Vincent when you have been in the industry for 20+ years, and all people talk about is one film that kick started your career. Every actor is known for their one great performance of sorts, so too are singers, but they keep evolving. That is what i meant, and sure that hargiteam42 did too!

Precisely. I think that he wants people to realize the greatness of the other films that he has made. For example, Guy. I love that movie too. Or Five Minutes Mr. Welles and so many others.

I, too, really liked him in The Cell. The first time I've ever felt sorry for the killer in a movie like this. He made Carl human to me, as did the boy who played Carl as a child.
