This is the best movie that I have seen in ages. The acting was fantastic. Kidman & Jackman have terrific chemistry. Both are genuinely laugh out loud funny in parts. For a two and a half hour film, it never lagged. The visuals are beautiful. The film starts in 1939, two years before the invasion of Australia by Japan. This is a fact that I was clueless about, that the Japanese army bombed Australia shortly after Pearl Harbor. The plot deals with the prejudice and disdain of the whites for both the blacks and the Aborigine people. Sadly, prejudice isn't just an American tradition. We also see the beautiful, magical culture of the Aborigine. The little boy who plays Mala, the boy of mixed blood, deserves an Oscar for his work. What a talent! I urge everyone to see this film.

This lovely film is now out on DVD. My daughter brought it home from our library's movie section yesterday - she knows how much I liked it. I saw it again last evening, and it is even better the second time.
Anyone looking for a good film with endearing characters, action, romance (and a gorgeously buff Hugh Jackman) should rent this! ;D

Yes, I love Australia very much as well! a sad, but also funny story at times, with a beautiful setting. It was a long movie, but I wasn't bored one minute. And Hugh Jackman is sooo handsome and Nicole Kidman is a very great actress!

For those of you who get HBO, "Australia" is on several times this month. Check it out, especially since Hugh Jackman and VDO seem to be fast friends lately.
