Hard to miss the frequent Australian use of "skinny" as jargon for inside info - at least if you read the country's major daily, the Sydney Morning Herald: A few examples: SMH Offers the Skinny on Celebrating a Nutritious Holiday Season. Slidell, LA.— Nov. 12, 2008[/b] SMH Life and Style: The skinny on Kate Moss. (Nov 2008) The skinny on skins. By Helen Bradley September 4, 2004 . And from a recent Oz media blog Now you can get the skinny on the cool features ... "goto smh"New Zealanders are in sync with the phrase, too. Photographer/designer Alan Doaks even calls his newsy NZ blog Get the Skinny from Skinny. On the other hand, in 30 years in Sydney, I have never once heard 'skinny' used as Oz slang for a girl. Sometimes, you have to wonder. There are snips on the net, I see, that seem to (virally?) borrow from each other in this assertion. Maybe it's a Tasmanian thing.
