Good news for mothership fans! We won't have to wait until after football season to see new episodes from the historic 20th season of Law & Order.
A tentative date -- Friday, September 25, 2009 -- has been set, though that's still in negotiation.
The season premiere will indeed be ripped from the (national) headlines, and -- in true L&O style -- will pack a political punch, taking on an issue that the real world justice system has been trying to avoid.

Thanks Annabelle. Excellent news for the mothership and seems like some good, political grittiness for a season opener.

In Season 20 it seems that L&O will once again take on escalating gun ownership (and its consequences) in the U.S. as well as issues of sexual identity and gender politics.
Though the mothership has been relegated to an unfavorable Friday evening slot on NBC, showrunner Rene Balcer has declared his intention to make every episode worthy of the headlines from which it is ripped. I think we can expect him to hold our politicians in Washington to campaign promises and to expose injustice wherever it occurs. In other words, we can look forward to another hard-hitting run of the best TV courtroom drama ever.
A reminder: The new season starts just a little over a month from today (on Friday, September 25th).
If you haven't watched L&O --say, since Jerry Orbach died -- I urge you to give the show another chance. You will not be disappointed.

I must second Annabelle's suggestion to give Season 20 of Law & Order a try. For years I stopped watching the show. Didn't like Farina replacing Orbach. When Farina left, I really couldn't stand the woman from "Conviction" who replaced him. I developed a new found interest in trying out the show when I heard that Rene Balcer had come in as show runner. That... and hearing about the new cast members, Lupo & Cutter (Sisto & Roach). Sounded like almost a new show. And it was. Big time. Now I get as excited about seeing new episodes of the mothership as I do about new episodes of LOCI. In fact, the writing is better and the acting above par. It's unbelievable that a show entering it's 20th season could be so fresh, so new and generally so enjoyable to watch. ;D

I third it! It is better than ever if you ask me, I used to like just the Law parts at one time, depending on who was staring then at times only the Order parts, (if this makes sense). Now with Lupo and Bernard they have great chemistry, and wow Cutter and McCoy!, how it must feel for McCoy to see a younger version of himself, This is MUST SEE TV! I can't wait! I am more excite for this than LOCI!
Oh and Congrats this ties them with Gunsmoke! Lets hope for Season 21 so they can beat them for longest running series!
