I do not understand the support this loser is getting.

He's getting support because he reportedly thought the girl was over eighteen, her mother helped set up the incident, and he was in a fragile emotional state after the murder of Sharon Tate. This is what some of his supporters say. There have also been reports that the judge in the case was out to get him.
I want to stress that I in no way condone what Mr. Polanski did. But these are some of the reasons why he's getting support.

I apologize for the delurk, and for not participating in the main discussion (Bottom line: if V and K got the boot I'm regrettably done with the Wolf empire. That to me is just lame). But I'm hoping more people have seen this salon.com feature on Polanski by now: www.salon.com/mwt/broadsheet/feature/2009/09/28/polanski_arrest/maherjunkie, I could not agree more.

Thank you sister. I hate being on the side of Bill O'Reilly/Hollywood bashers but this is the one time I see their point. Oh! I pmed you from last time you were here.

I so agree on this. I don't understand how anyone can side with him, even 32 years later and with the victim not wanting to deal with anymore.
The testimony of his victim is on the record. He didn't seduce her. He raped her.
And it's not like he's been hiding in the backwoods of some 3rd world country all this time. How can anyone say he's been punished enough when he hasn't been punished at all?

I concur. They need to lock him up. He's never had to do any time at all. The way the folks in the "biz" are rallying for him...BLECH!
Fact is, he confessed, then skipped. He never did the time. So...time to pay the piper.

I'm no law expert or expert on this case - but wouldn't the statute of limitations have already expired on this case?
Or maybe, did they just change that in Swiss? Dang, I can't remember, I know that we were/are fighting for this (*no statute of limitations on sexual assault etc.) here and that NY State changed the statute of limitations on sexual assault recently...

Tjara, Mr. Polanski had pleaded guilty and fled the US before he was sentenced, so statue of limitations doesn't apply. I can understand Woody Allen's support after all he married his adopted daughter, but Martin Scorsese? That disappoints me.

Thanks for clearing that up, idget. I didn't realize he had already pleaded guilty... appaling.

Woody didn't actually adopt Mia, it was just a little close for comfort since he was doing the mother previously. I am not sure the statute of limitations ever runs out for sex abuse to kids, at least not in my state.

Oh it does! Not in all states, but it does. Usually it only starts when the child is of legal age (18 or 21), but in my country it's currently 10 years, though there's movements to change that. There's US states that have a statute of limitations for child abuse, too.
