Law and Order: Criminal Intent Kills One of Its Own
The Hollywood Reporter, Showbiz 411 By: Roger Friedman // Monday October 26, 2009
I told you a few weeks ago that “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” was letting go of three main players: Vincent D’Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, and Eric Bogosian. Now I can tell you this: one of their characters will die.
“CI” just finished filming an episode in which one of the three is murdered. That’s the exit show for the other two as well.
I am told by “CI” insiders that Erbe, especially, is very unhappy with the way things have worked out over there. “She was told everything was going fine, and then they were fired.”
Whoever was murdered isn’t too happy, either. But I’m not giving that part away.
The show is next turned over to Jeff Goldblum, who will soldier on without the original cast.

Just got this off of the ReelBlog. I think Ross is the one, because the article hints that Erbe isn't it, and VDO will return if Goldblum can't hold the show. That's just my opinion though.

I don't like the sound of her being unhappy with it. It, clearly, wasn't her decision, and I was so hoping that (on some level) that she wanted it, because I hate the idea that they were just fired. It would explain why she hasn't commented or released a statement.

Copy of my post elsewhere:
First--Regard the source. THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER is a trade publication, based on the West Coast. It is, however, often reliable regarding the business side of show business. But Roger Friedman, I think, is the same reporter who used to work for Fox and helped spread a lot of rumors about Mr. D'Onofrio at the time of his illness during Season Four. (If this were Ausiello, I wouldn't believe it at all).
If a character is getting killed (I stress the "if", I'd bet on Ross. All of the reliable rumors (if there is such a thing), have indicated that Mr. D'Onofrio and Ms. Erbe refused to let the other's character get killed.
As to why Ms. Erbe hasn't commented--Probably because she's too classy of a person.

There could be another explanation for why Erbe hasn't commented.

AL--For gosh's sake, don't drop such lines and expect us (well, at leat me!) not to wonder what's going on. My first thought is that her contract says she can't say anything. Or that she doesn't want to get a reputation as a whiner. Although how anyone could think that with the patience and graciousness she's shown is beyond me.

I'm thinking it's Ross, too - BUT I also think the easier scenario to write out Goren would be if Eames gets killed. Oh jeez.

I know tj, jeeze. That's a tough one. How can you "fluff" when a main character dies?

Does it matter which one will die? Since they are all leaving, the show will be dead to me anyway.
Re: Ms. Erbe, sometimes when companies let people go, they give a hefty severance pay, and sometimes there are strings attached, like if you talk about this, you don't get your severance. (That's what happend to me once.)
Anyway, why wouldn't she be unhappy? Is the writer surprised by that? I'm fuming and I'm not the one being fired.

Does it matter which one will die? Since they are all leaving, the show will be dead to me anyway.. What!? YES it matters if Goren or Eames dies! I mean, I won't be watching after those two leave, but if one of them dies I think I will be scarred for life. Not to mention how one would never function fully again without the other one alive. It would make a huge difference to the veiwers as well as the two of them.

There could be another explanation for why Erbe hasn't commented. AL Sadly, yes. As much as I would hate Eames' getting killed, it would explain the departure of Goren. How could he continue at Major case without his beloved partner? It would also give a reason why Captain Ross is leaving. Perhaps he is blamed for her death, as the commanding officer in charge, and is either transferred or demoted. This is all total conjecture on my part. It could still be Ross who is murdered. I just don't see why they have to go this route? No matter who is killed off, it will be quite devastating to the fans. Especially if it is Eames. Ross is a father of two boys, and Eames has a large loving family, including her nephew that she carried as a surrogate mom. It's horrible of the show to end either of their lives. If it is Eames, will the show finally reveal how much Goren cares for her? How "shippy" will it be?

Man, the news just goes from bad to worse. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Goren is the one killed and the Mr. D'Onofrio had no idea until he read it in the script. That is how TPTB operate. They are nothing but vultures that would continue to pick at a carcass long after what is necessary. I fell like I have gotten on a train on one of its last stops right before a horrific fiery crash.
