As much as it pains me to say this, I suspect it will be Goren. And it's just like USA to keep everything close to the vest. Come this winter, they're going to milk it for everything. Shame on them. I can hear the promos now. "Someone is going to die. In three weeks, two weeks, one week from now, someone will die. Tune in for the most powerful LOCI ever. Coming up next, Jeff Goldblum stars in an all new LOCI, where characters are welcome." Why kill Ross, other than to bring in ol' fly eyes to avenge his death? It could be Eames, in which it's plausible Goren would finally go over the brink, but then why bring him back for guest appearances? No matter what, without Goren and Eames, there will be no Law & Order: CI

Over the 20-year, 40-season history of the Law & Order franchise Dick Wolf has killed off only one recurring male character played by a still-living actor -- Sgt. Max Greevey (George Dzundza), 1991.
As badly as Chris Noth was treated, Mike Logan still "lives" because -- as Wolf told the press when Noth left -- he may want to bring back Logan in the future. In other words, Wolf still considers Mike Logan to be a valuable property. Doubtless he thinks the same of Robert Goren.
On the other hand, Wolf has blown through female characters like Kleenex. I've lost count of how many. And he has served up violent deaths for two.
Think about it.

I also don't think for a minute that it will be Goren who is killed. That would be suicide for the LOCI reruns, which highlight Goren's quirkiness & appeal in a majority of them. And besides, VDO stated that his contract includes guest appearances. As much as I hate to say it, Eames has always been treated by the franchise in a dismissive manner and as replaceable. Not by the fans, mind you, but by the show. Her death would be the epitome of that bad attitude.

You make a good point DJ. It would kill DVD sales, but since we haven't had any available since God knows when, I guess it doesn't matter. Do we really want to buy the last two seasons anyway?

Oh my goodness. I'm gonna be in tears, I just know it. I know it's not gonna be Goren. Ross wouldn't make a lot of sense, it wouldn't mean Goren would leave... unless he killed him or something, which is highly unlikely. It's gonna be Eames, and I'm gonna just choke on tears. I know you're all making sense, they have never respected her character... PANTS!

Either way, Goren and Eames will be gone for good. I don't think either Erbe or VDO would come back after the way they were treated.

If they go through with this, then obviously I go through with my plan. It's over for me after the season opener. IF they bring Goren back in the future...THAT episode will find its way to my TV. But ONLY that one.
I am still hoping that the two-parter where someone dies is the season finale instead of the season opener.
It could happen!
And I was thinking Ross goes because of the wording...the article said that Erbe was unhappy and that the person who was being murdered "wasn't happy either". No way they kill Goren, so that is how I got to Ross.
If they dare kill Alex, I am going to NYC and someone's getting my fist in their eye...
Okay...maybe not my fist. Maybe just my foot to their backside.
:rolls eyes at the stupidity of network people:
But all anger aside, Ross being killed works as a dramatic plot. Alex being killed brings on the soap. And it would be really soapy, don't y'all think? Without Alex, Bobby falls apart. Good grief, they hardly need to pile anything else on the poor guy.

As I recall previous discussions here, Dick Wolf treats actors poorly only when he feels they've disrespected him...for example, by requesting to leave the show. They either get killed off or, more likely, just don't show up the next season, no explanation given.
As far as we know, none of the three 'major' players from Major Case fit that profile. What in the H-E-double-hockey-sticks is going on at Chelsea Piers?

For perhaps the first time, I'm speechless. This is just so wrong on so many levels. If this turns out to be a hoax, with false tidbits leaked to the media to rile up the fans even more and drum up even more publicity, well then shame on whoever is responsible. I won't say anything more beyond that or else I might have to hit myself in the head with Patcat's ASP bat AND throw myself under my runaway anti-speculation tank!
ETA: From what I've read and heard about Mr. D'Onofrio's radio interview today, Goren isn't the character who is killed off, which leaves Eames and Ross as the remaining candidates. But which one, and is this another bit of misdirection from USA? I also have to wonder about why Ms. Erbe is so upset about these latest developments, and why we still haven't heard anything at all from Mr. Bogosian.
