It's the only thing that has kept him in the game all this time -- his decisions to acquire the cable channels has generated profits which have offset his terrible decisions at NBC. Even so, it is amazing to me how Mr. Zucker continues to be promoted or keep his position given what has happened at NBC. It will be interesting to see what Comcast will do -- I read a couple of months ago that they may spin off the NBC network and only keep the profitable cable channels.

I think Jeff Zucker is horrible at his job. I don't think the decison to let go of VDO and the others has anything to do with Comcast, but I'll bet it was one of his brilliant ideas. Like the Jahy Leno Show.

There are reports that the presentation announcing Comcast's takeover included no mention of NBC's current primetime lineup.

There are reports that the presentation announcing Comcast's takeover included no mention of NBC's current primetime lineup. Patcat PC -- what do you think that means? I am not in the "know" as far as the industry goes. Do you think this is a sign that they want to spin off NBC? On the other hand, the Comcast guy is quoted in one of those articles I posted as saying they are dedicated to the affiliates and improving revenues for them.

I'm sure AL and our other media gurus could answer this better, but the reports I've read all suggest Comcast bought NBC/Universal for the Universal side and the cable networks. If anything, the NBC network was a detriment to the deal.
Again--I'm not any kind of an expert or insider. All I know is what I read in the papers...and on the Internet...and hear on NPR.

I had heard that also and read an article a couple of months ago that speculated they might spin the NBC network off -- how would that affect the news division and MSNBC and CNBC was raised if this happened. But the comments about the network affiliates by Comcast was interesting yesterday. They were trying to calm down the affiliates -- all who have been taking a bath with Leno as the lead in. Comcast seemed to recognize the value of the affiliates. I wonder where this will go. I think the tie in for the cable shows and NBC could be developed better e.g., CI playing on NBC during summer rerun season.
I am very concerned about a cable company controlling content and this doesn't seem to be getting a lot of press yet. I suspect there will be a lot of opposition to the deal for this reason and there will (I hope) be big strings attached to it.

My understanding is that the NBC affiliates are very happy with many things, including Leno (a move which is apparently a disaster), and the Comcast deal.
I agree with you Wilmingtonfan--I do not like this deal. Seems to me some anti-trust law should forbid it.

All fears are well founded. I'm a Comcast customer, and I hate them. I would switch if I could, but they currently have some sort of sweetheart deal with my city that leaves Comcast as the only provider of highspeed internet. It's either Comcast or DSL for me, while my friend lives 2 miles away in a different city, gets all the same channels and internet service, but pays $60 less per month. Price fixing and gouging are Comcast's business MO. I dearly look forward to switching to another provider.

My friend calls them Commiecast, though they act like the opposite in some ways I'm sure.

Count me as another unhappy comcast subscriber. I just hope they don't jack up the prices to pay for this. I had recently read where the affiliates were very unhappy with the Leno show because the decrease in ratings at the 10 pm hour was also lowering the ratings for the 11pm local newscasts.
