Thanks for the link, angua. I love "Lu" and can't imagine the show without her. God, I also hope the don't kill her off with the cancer storyline.

It had to happen...first they dessimate the cast of CI. Then Meloni announces he's leaving SVU - getting out while the getting's good - and now Merkeson will be gone, too.
The days of this franchise are numbered. It's over.

You beat me Angua (g). As I've written before, I'm not a fan of Mr. Ausiello, but I must admit that when he respects and likes someone, he handles things well. I'll miss her and her character. Both terrific.
Meloni is definitely leaving SVU?

From all reports I have read, Patcat, Meloni will leave after his current contract expires. He knows what's up.

Merkerson was not fired. After winning an Emmy other opportunities opened up for her. There's nothing surprising or sinister about an actor leaving a TV series after decades of playing the same role. If Meloni's leaving SVU (and I don't know that for a fact) I'm sure it's for the same reason.
Two things:
1. Change is the one constant in life. How one handles it is a measure of one's character.
2. With a possible "L&O: LA" in the works and an almost certain renewal for a 21st mothership season one can hardly say the L&O franchise is kaput.

Merkeson stated that her contract was over at the end of the season and she was going to have to begin negotiating for her new one. She decided she would leave the series instead. Given her story line this year (and she said she doesn't know how it is going to end), this was a logical time for her to step aside. Better she leave now of her own accord than they kill her off (and I'm not saying that is what they were going to do -- just a possibility). It's always better to leave on your own terms at your own time. She has been in this role a long time and probably wants to stretch her wings a little.

I'm going to miss seeing SEP, but I guess 17 seasons of doing the same thing would bring a bit of the ennui. She was also in the first season episode "Mushrooms"... heartbreaking. Really liked her in Navy Seals and The Closer. I absolutely loved her in Lackawanna Blues.

Who said Merkerson was fired? I was under the impression that after sixteen years, she was ready to go.

Thanks for the episode name reminder, Nikki. I was about to dig out my DVD's to find it. I couldn't remember the name of her first ep. I loved it! She was so amazing. Any wonder they wanted her as a regular cast member.

AL, if Comcast indeed takes over and shoves the GE execs out of the decision making seats at NBC, the franchise and NBC itself might have a fighting chance.
We need more shows like L&O, not more reality junk and game shows. When NBC gets a clue, maybe we can get back to Must See TV.

Boy, if how one handles change is a mark of character, I'm a pretty sorry person (g).
Dick Wolf has funded some great careers.

Don't worry, Patcat. Your character is just fine. That statement is not quite accurate, IMO.
And for the record, it is not the change, it is how it went down that sticks in my craw.
