Holy recycled plot elements! Shades of Maledictus.
I half expected Nichols to get a package in the mail with the decapitated head of the daughter of a Russkaya mafiya inside.

I missed the first ten minutes or so, so my judgment was skewered. It seemed to have the elements of a good LOCI episode, and I enjoyed the by play between Stevens (who I'm starting to warm up to) and Nichols. The astrology/psychology bit was funny.
But I was oddly unengaged, and I'm not sure why.

But I was oddly unengaged, and I'm not sure why. I was too, and I can't pinpoint why either, Patcat. All of the elements were there for a good episode, but something was missing. If I had to guess, I think it was because there were too many unsympathetic characters. And I couldn't get past the actress who played the mother. I kept seeing her in her other roles on various Law & Order shows. Also, there were way too many overly long close ups of Nichols facial expressions. Too long, too overdone, too obvious. Bad camera work there. Captain Callas (MEM) was again awesome. That woman can act rings around everyone, with the little bit they give her to do.
