2004 Oscars:
The third time was the charm for previous two-time nominee Renée Zellweger, who was named Best Supporting Actress for enlivening the Civil War drama Cold Mountain -- the movie's sole award -- with her performance as a feisty and resourceful farm girl. In her acceptance speech, Zellweger mentioned two of her former costars, The Whole Wide World's Vincent D'Onofrio ''for teaching me how to work'' and Jerry Maguire's Tom Cruise ``for showing me very early on that kindness and success are not mutually exclusive.''

So TWWW had deep impact on her, too. Good to know. It is such an amazing movie and gets no press from folks interviewing her.

From today's TV Guide Insider: "Oscar Mysteries Solved!" by Michael Ausiello www.tvguide.com/news/insider/Zells also singled out Law & Order: Criminal Intent's Vincent D'Onofrio "for teaching me how to work." When was that exactly? As movie buffs no doubt recall, the pair played distant lovers in the 1996 drama The Whole Wide World. "The film didn't have a very high profile," points out TV Guide Online's own Maitland McDonagh, "but it got very solid reviews."

I wonder if this compliment by an actress as loved by people in the industry (at least so it seems) as Renee Zellweger-- a compliment made upon winning an Academy Award-- will garner Vincent D'Onofrio even more respect than he already has and perhaps make it more likely for him to be nominated for awards himself. Maybe the TV academy and Motion Picture academy were a little unsure of him...they're rather staid to say the least and his acting style is not run of the mill...but maybe the Zellweger stamp of approval will make them feel it's "safe" to nominate him.
I hope so...it would be nice to see him get some major recognition again.
