Katie Couric is a flake who irritates me. From the bleary-eyed guys, interviews should not be conducted early in the morning.
Still, it was nice to see that Noth and D'Onofrio can goof around with each other; even if they're not best buddies, hopefully the peaceful coexistance will help good things happen on the show. I thought it kind of sweet for D'Onofrio to give that little shout-out to Kathryn Erbe, he seems to be pretty consistant in that way. (Back during the first or second season he told someone at some conference "We couldn't have the show without Kate: she humanizes Goren.")
But is anyone else worried about that quote "My character is slowly going insane?" Maybe he was just shooting his mouth off to mess with interviews, but I am further and further convinced that Goren's farewell will be instituionalization (is that even a word?).
What was that about a movie?

What was that about a movie? I'm glad you mentioned that... I wasn't sure if I caught the gist of what was said, but I think VDO was saying they are planning a feature/movie length episode featuring all 4 detectives working together.

That comment about going insane bothered me too. I don't even want to think of it.... As far as the 2 hour show goes. Google reports that it is scheduled to be broadcast in November....no dates, but I presume it will be for November Sweeps. Just got that info in my Google report this morning. BTW....VDO definitely looked better than Noth....Noth had bags under his eyes big enough to pack an overnight bag . lol....But I bet the 2 hour show will be great.... Shadow

I think Mr. D'Onofrio was goofing when he made the comment about Goren going "insane." I agree that Couric was a complete waste in this interview. I like the way Mr. D'Onofrio was taking advantage of that free TODAY coffee.
I never really felt one way or the other about Mr. Noth or the character of Logan, but I've like him in the interviews I've read and heard recently.
And everything I've ever read or heard about Kathryn Erbe indicates she's a great person. And great Watson characters, and people to play them, are very hard to come by.

I thought D'Onofrio was joking when he said the stuff about his character going slowly insane -- hope so anyway!! Maybe it was a roundabout shout out to fans? Loved that he made sure to mention Erbe when the talk turned to Sciorra. That was classy. Both D'Onofrio and Noth looked exhausted! They must be shooting the movie they talked about right now. I can't wait to see all four detectives in a two-hour LOCI!!! Sounds like a lot of fun! Anyway, it was good to see D'Onofrio looking relaxed (if quite tired).

I'm really looking forward to the movie. Please don't let Goren go insane! Even as die-hard as I am, I'd find it hard to still fancy him...

Too bad we can't get Stephanie SenGupta back to ask about D'Onofrio's statement regarding Goren going insane.

I hope Vincent was just goofing off. I'd hate to think they would end him that way.
I like the way Vincent brought Kathryn Erbe into the conversion.

Please ... I beg the TV gods ... Don't let Goren go insane! What would I have left to fantasize about? Visiting him and his mother at Carmel Ridge. (ewww) If Goren goes insane I'm going to have to find a new TV boyfriend to obsess about.... hmmmmm ...... wait a minute... we could share a room and I could do naughty things to him while he's tied to the hospital bed. I finally got to Kinko’s to see this interview. The sound systems on the computers there are very weak, so I couldn’t hear everything they said. I was especially frustrated that I couldn’t hear all of it when D’Onofrio was talking about Goren slowly going insane... but it didn’t sound like he was joking to me. Still, he may not have meant literally, technically insane – I certainly hope he didn’t.
Stephanie SenGupta told us that Balcer talked to them from the beginning about the ways that Goren’s childhood trauma would affect him as an adult. For many people those kinds of effects can get more intense at times, as old issues come up to be worked through, or when there are major life stresses. We saw a pattern like that in Season 2, as Goren dealt with some issues related to his father. Hopefully that’s the kind of thing he was talking about – a period that would be difficult, but that would resolve eventually.
If he were talking about Goren really going insane, I would be pretty bummed out. They’ve created a character who has come through devastating childhood trauma, and though he’s certainly got some issues, he also has strong, competent facets to his personality. In fact, Goren is the only realistic portrayal of a functional survivor of severe childhood trauma I can think of. He’s exactly the kind of image, the kind of role model, we need, and that I, at least, have never seen anywhere else. For me, to see that character lose out to madness in the end would be depressing beyond words.

The thought of sending Goren off the deep end, especially as Vincent's exit, is just sad. Surely, they could think of a better exit for Goren Now, I know CI is gonna what CI wants to do but, to destroy a character that I have invested so much time, gotten attached to, is not only heartbreaking, it is a betrayal. I know I may sound like the bratty viewer who wants her way, hehehehe, but, I think CI owes us more than that! Let Goren leave, alive, sane, and in one piece!

The 'slowly going insane' comment seemed to be like a typical D'Onofrio goof-off. It seems sometimes in interviews that he's not quite sure how to respond, and he just reels off whatever comes to mind at that moment. I don't think he meant Goren is eventually, literally going to go insane. It's just that that is the path he has gone down since the show began, and is going to continue to go down. Personally, when it comes to the point of Vincent leaving the show, I would rather they do a 'clean kill' than send Goren off to Carmel Ridge to join his mother. But that's another topic altogether.
The 'movie' comment was intriguing. I had to play the interview again, because I thought they were talking about a movie involving all four L&O shows, but no - just the four detectives of Major Case. It would be interesting to see Goren and Logan together again, and it would be even more interesting to see how Barek reacts first to Goren, and then to Eames. I see fireworks - anyone else with me there? LOL
