No time for a lengthy post, but has anyone else seen this? Good speech patterns for all the actors, great scenarios--every stereotype has some basis in fact--and funny as all get-out. Or am I the only one?

I've only seen this show a few times--if I'm at home on Tuesday nights I watch HOUSE--but, heavens, it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. And, mind you, I'm laughing at some of my relatives with this show.

I've only seen two episodes--the pilot and last night's figurine--but I was howling half the time. Patcat, I got plenty of family like that myself! (I didn't realize just how close I am to redneck until I heard myself say without batting an eye "My Daddy's cousin lost two fingers in a Civil War reenactment." God's honest truth. You get some funny reactions from professors with that one...)
Thing is, I don't think the show is mean-spirited. The characters may not be the brightest porch lights on the block, but they don't mean any harm. Even Joy just seems to be self-centered and wrong priorities, not really malicious. Generally likeable people, I think. I've just added another distraction from homework.
The beauty pageant, lord deliver us. Yes there are mothers and children like that--thank God I did not have to deal with it. I think my favorite moment was the pilot episode, where the children's car seats are in the bed of the pick-up truck. I still get giggles over that!

This show is so funny. I at first did not think it would be all that great. But Jason Lee is fantastic as Earl w/ his trusty list. I watch it and the Office then SVU (though that show is starting to tick me off...see SVU topic)

While I wasn't too impressed with the golfing episode as a whole (I'm sure I missed some of the jokes as I never saw "Smokey and the Bandit"), there were a few funny moments. "What's his handicap?" "Oh, he's just a little slow". And the outfits in the country club lounge were hysterical.
Joy cracks me up--I told my parents about the talent show episode with the "ashes" of her mother containing a cigarette butt: "Well that makes sense--that's what took her." Oh my God, I still laugh over that. I would have liked to see her in this episode, but whatever.

Saw it for the first time this week -- oh, man! This show is hilarious! If the golfing episode is only ho-hum, I can't wait to see more. I loved the golfer's ex-boss's reaction to Ed's story. And the golfer on his girlfriend's front yard with the boombox, a la John Cusak from the '80's movie SAY ANYTHING, burning his golf clubs. Classic! First, the burning clubs look like a flaming cross, which (naturally) antagonizes a downstairs black neighbor. Then, when he pushes them over, to prove it's not a cross, his girlfriend's reaction is "why are you burning a swastika on my front yard?" Sure enough -- the burning golf clubs did look like a swastika. Good stuff. I'm hooked.

I haven't seen the show. However, ever time I see the commercial for the show with Earl and his flannel shirt flapping in the breeze. I can't help but think of the irresistible Donnie Smalley

Sounds like an interesting show, but I've never had a chance to see since its opposite "House". Tonight, there are 4 episodes starting at 9:00PM. The titles are certainly interesting. ETA: Jason Lee is hosting SNL tonight.

Those were hilarious. Thanks for bringing the show to "light", Catbird. Although... I could have done without seeing Ribisi running around half nekked. ;D Coincidentally, his episode was my least favourite.

I had to tape this week's since I was in the middle of a frikkin Philosophy paper. But I saw it last night, and just about hurt myself at the redneck wedding. "Guaranteed to've only been worn 8 times". The white tube top and tight jeans, soccer ball flying through the ceremony; "It's got a stain on it!" "That don't matter, 'swhere I'm go'n Bedazzle my initial!" And of course, paper plates, registered at the likker store...
Is it wrong that I thought parts of it kinda sweet? I mean, you got your family and friends, you got someone to pronounce the vows, what else do you really need when you come down to it? Of course, my father's plan to "Write a check and hold the ladder" when my time comes is lookin' kinda dull in comparison!

OK, time lapse. I thought the election episode was decent. I was glad that they left the situation with Dad the way it was: how many shows would have gone for a hug and reconciliation? This lack of resolution--a first baby step--was a welcome change and realistic. Maybe they're paving the way for a return appearance (the mother was a hoot: "I'll put twenty dollars and some power bars under the goose!")
Still, last week was a bit of a letdown--but then, my parents and I were howling over the tape of Joy's wedding, which we had just watched. We spent all Thanksgiving bursting into giggles at "You kiss your ijilitimate children with that mouth" and "Tequila: need 10, got 10". Lord help me at my ceremony. I mentioned to my mother my comment about "Well, when it come sright down to it, what do you really need?" Only to have her start yelling at my father "There will NOT be any Twinkies at her wedding!" Of course, later this weekend I had to point out Jason Lee as "That's Earl" in "Dogma".
I'm quite irritated that they didn't show it this week--two hours of "The Biggest Loser"?!? Grumble. Better luck next time.
