I actually saw Lillian Gish in person. She appeared as part of a classic silent film series at the Indiana University Auditorium in the 1970s in connection with the film BROKEN BLOSSOMS (an extraordinary silent film about prejudice and poverty directed by D.W. Griffith). It was just a few years before her death, but she was mentally sharp, thrilled that some 2000 college students were watching the film, and one of the most beautiful people I've every seen. Her work is exceptional.
Thanks for the heads-up!

I was impressed with how the silent stars had to use their eyes. I think I almost preferred Greta Garbo that way.
