Is anyone else watching this on AMC?
It's truly fantastic, each episode is like a finely condensed mini-movie. It's set in 1960, in the white-collar world of NY ad agencies, and they just do such a superb job of not only presenting interesting and conflicted characters who are trapped in various ways in their "perfect" lifestyles, but the wardrobe and set design is just AMAZING.
Even if the character development was lacking, or the storylines weren't interesting, I would honestly sit and watch this show for an hour each week just for the gorgeous look of it.

Hey All. I'm bumping up this thread in the hope there are some fellow fans out there who'd like to talk about this show ( SarahIvy, Irene?) I love this show. I'm watching it online at www.ctv.ca (video programming) - Anyone in Canada can access the first two seasons. The costumes, makeup are fantastic. Retro yet modern. It's the storylines that make me wish I could write. The dialogue and the staging capture so many elements in a sort of "Leave-it-to-Beaver" overlay but underneath there's irony, sadness, multiple perspectives jostling for prominence in a single scene. I really hope it wins all it's emmys again.

At the behest of a friend, I recently purchased the first season Blu Rays. What a treat I was in for! I didn't leave the house for two days finishing the season beginning to end.
The writing is absolutely fantastic. It is such a high quality production. The costumes are absolutely wonderful on all the characters. I especially like the wardrobe for Joan, Salvatore, and Betty.
And also what a wonderful cast. Elisabeth Moss' (who we've seen from "The Good") character Peggy is my favourite.
Can't wait for the Season 2 Blu Ray release over here. August 19. LOCI will keep me glued to the screen till then!

Yes, the writing is sublime! As good, if not better than the first two seasons of LO:CI (sorry, writers and show runners of LO:ci but the gauntlet has been thrown ;D )
For me the whole package comes together in so many little scenes. The acting, set, costumes, blocking, dialogue just all works as one. it gives me, the viewer so many things to think about at any given time. I re-watch and still see nuances I missed two or three viewings later.

Oh, hooray! There ARE some other folks enjoying Mad Men. I'm so delighted! I am so terribly excited for the upcoming season, so many things left from last year to be delved into. I don't want to be too specific for people who might still be catching up on DVD. I'd say Joan and Salvatore are two of my favorites, they both have stories that just break my heart. And I could not have a bigger Girl Crush on Joan....va-va-voom! (I also greatly enjoy Roger, against my better judgment ) But back to the upcoming season....I have very high hopes for it. I wasn't sure if they could follow up the first season with the same level of detail and quality but if anything I think I may have been even more impressed with season two.

I've never seen it but I hear it's fantastic. I heard that Christina Hendricks was in it. She was pretty good in "Firefly".

I would recommend watching from season one on DVDs.
It is worth it IMO just to see the '60s costumes and sets. I watch and think... 'Grandma had a couch like that! We have a picture of Mom in a dress like that!' LOL ;D Just like watching The Help!
