Cassie, I know what you're saying. My point in stressing LADY is that this word is so often thrown around so much, especially relating to self-promoting individuals who in NO way deserve the distinction. Audrey Hepburn transcended her gender, no doubt, she was a gracious human being who happened to be female. Rather than exploiting her gender for selfish reasons, she instead chose to be a nurturing and giving person, as evidenced by her work with UNICEF.

Oh man--for years I've been keeping a journal of quotes that speak to me. I'll try to ration them out so that I don't dominate the thread. (And Techguy, you mentioned "The King and I"! Yul Brynner! You rock.) Do not seek too much fame, but do not seek obscurity. Be proud, but do not remind the world of your deeds. Excel when you must, but do not excel the world. Many heroes are not yet born, many have already died. To be alive to hear this song is a victory. --------- Traditional African song, I found in in a lit textbook"Words mean a great deal here...words are regarded as great treasures to be dispensed with care...To be without words is unknown here, because to be without words is to be without expression, and to be without expression is to be less than alive." --------- from Defenders of Joona, a children's Christian-themed book"There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face." ---- Bern Williams"The cult of southern womanhood requires to be frigid, passionate, sweet, B***hy, animated, and scatterbrained all at the same time...A horrifying number of us succeed, which accounts for that popular southern female pastime, having a breakdown." ---Florence King. My lord, is this true.
"Everything I did in my life that was worthwhile I caught hell for." -----Earl Warren
"Alright, Johnny Bravo's through bein' sissy-slapped by Lady Luck! From now on, I'm makin' my own destiny!" ----Johnny Bravo, from the TV series with his name.
"So after the Norman invasion, the wizard Myrddin became Merlin, and we can understand why. Oh come on, you all know what "merde" means in French! And who wants a prophet named Shitty?!?!" -----one of my Grail Literature professors
There, I'll try to weed down the many I've collected to the ones most worth sharing!

"I'm not a Starfleet commander, or T.J. Hooker. I don't live on Starship NCC-170... (some audience members say "1"), or own a phaser. I don't know anybody named Bones, Sulu, or Spock (picture of Dr. Benjamin Spock is shown on screen behind him). And no, I've never had green alien sex, but I'm sure it'd be quite an evening. (Pomp and Circumstance begins playing.) I speak English and French, not Klingon! I drink Labatt's, not Romulan ale! And when someone says to me 'live long and prosper', I seriously mean it when I say, 'get a life'. My doctor's name is not McCoy, it's Ginsberg (nude picture of Dr. Ginsberg shown on screen). And tribbles were puppets, not real animals. PUPPETS! And when I speak, I never, ever talk like Every. Word. Is. Its. Own. Sentence. I live in California, but I was raised in Montreal. And I believe in priceline.com, where you never have to pay full price for airline tickets, hotels, and car rentals! I've appeared onstage at Stratford, at Carnegie Hall, Albert Hall, and the Monkland Theatre in NDG. And, yes, I've gone where no man has gone before, but... I was in Mexico and her father gave me permission! My name is William Shatner, and I am Canadian!" — from a Just for Laughs appearance ( a parody of the popular Molson Canadian Commercial entitled "I Am Canadian")

“Learning is not obtained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.”
Abigail Adams born in 1744: Like other women of the time, Abigail lacked formal education; but her curiosity spurred her keen intelligence, and she read avidly the books at hand. Reading created a bond between her and young John Adams, Harvard graduate launched on a career in law, and they were married in 1764. It was a marriage of the mind and of the heart, enduring for more than half a century, enriched by time.

I have a bumper sticker that says this: "It takes 39 muscles to frown but only 4 to give the finger!"
I also like to say "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."
A favorite: "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." - Eleanor Roosevelt.
