Can you be any more specific, Metella, for instance in what way was the character outlandishly dressed I think I've might have seen the movie.

it has been so long ago - I think he put white paint on his face.
I remember them curling up and comforting one antoher in one scene (not a romatic interest) and I remember camera views of the stark apartment buildings.
I remember a bright orange or red flowing curtain or room divider.
Wow - if this gets me the name of the flick - that will be amazing.

Was it "Good bye Lenin"?

I looked up a website on Goodbye Lenin - no - it wasn't that one - that one was too recent.
Thanks though

Metella, the first movie that came to mind was "Mephisto", but I doubt that's what you're thinking about either, eh?

Metella, the film you're describing sounds an awful lot like "Keiner Liebt Mich" (Nobody Loves Me) from 1994. The woman in the film, Fanny, is obsessed with death and dying (having just turned 30), and ends up befriending Orfeo, a black, gay, sometime drag queen who lives in her apartment building. He dies in the end and the most memorable part of the movie (for me) is when he's dying and tells her never to wear a wrist watch, because it's always the same time, now.
Are we getting closer?

YES YES YES ah, bless you! Wow oh wow
I'm off to blockbuster right now to see if they have it. It may not mean as much to me now, but it really spoke to me when I happened upon it. TRIPLE COOL
What a cool place - to get the name of a film over 10 years old and in German from snippets and the hazy memory of colored curtains. coolio. WHEW.

Woohoo! Very Coolio! I have no recollection of the colored curtains. What triggered my memory was you saying that the gay guy used white paint on his face. THAT I recalled! Hope blockbuster has the flick.

Metella, as luck would have it--and I hope I'm not too late with this information--but AAE will be on AMC on Monday morning June 12, I think it's 6:15AM ET based on the scheduled air time where I am. Of course, it will have commercials, but it might help you out in a pinch until you can get your hands on a VHS or DVD copy or find a rental store with some class and taste in REAL movies.

I suggest you a nice movie El hijo de la novia, the son of the bride, very touching movie directed by J.J. Campanella, the director of some of the loci and svu episodes. Chick flick alert though.
Since I'm spanish, american movies are foreign to me and this month Thumbsucker will be released on the big screen and those idiots only say that it's a Keanu Reeves movie. I understand that they use a famous name but they talk like if he was the only one starring. Grrr.
