madger: see it on the big screen if at all possible. It's a movie that is already larger than life in its subject matter. It begs the extra space and sound.

I finally got to see this, unfortunately on small screen, fortunately I also watched it with the director's commentary.
I definitely recommend it. It was specially interesting to me because I grew up in Franco's Spain, though, by 1964 when I moved there, things had settled somewhat. But the wounds of war were still open. There were bombed-out houses near mine and there were still people hiding in the mountains.
The commentary is very interesting, the director put so much thought into every aspect, it's fun to go back and watch it with the information in mind. Wow I missed a lot the first viewing.
