I mean, like we did with Citizen Cane and Some Like It Hot and All About Eve?
I got such a lot out of watching those films and then discussing them with folks here. During a long, LOCIless summer, it's kind of fun to revisit some of the classics, especially movies that I've been meaning to watch, but never seem to get around to seeing.
Is there any interest in doing this again? For those who don't know what I'm talking about, in the past, during the down times for LOCI, we've sometimes picked an old movie to watch and then discuss. Our discussions of Citizen Cane and Some Like It Hot were amazing. And, though I was out of town for much of the discussion of All About Eve, that discussion was amazing too.
Anyway, I'm up for it, if anybody else is, and would be happy to coordinate the nominating of films to watch and all that.
Mods, does this sound okay to you?

That is a good idea, LOCIfan.

I'm in !
My suggestions: To Kill a Mockingbird (Or different Vein) Animal House OR Stepford Wives (either one or compare the two)
but I'll go with any move the group decides on.

I second "To Kill a Mockingbird" and add another Gregory Peck film to the list: "Gentleman's Agreement".

Gentleman's agreement sounds good. It being summer and all, I'm personally not going to be a fan of the dark and heavy stuff. I hate crying on a sunny day! I'll think about some options and add my one cent later. It's a great idea.

Thanks for starting this thread LOCIfan. I'm always game for discussing classic movies!
IIRC, last year we submitted our suggestions for movie titles and then I posted a poll of the titles with the most interest to vote on to determine the movie to be discussed. If that's OK with all interested parties, I'll put up a poll next week with the top 3 entries for all to vote.
I'm more in the mood for a comedy or a musical this year, although I will make an exception for "To Kill a Mockingbird" if a serious drama is more to everyone else's liking.
ETA: As Patcat, SarahIvy, and others have noted, "Cabaret" and/or "All That Jazz" would be interesting choices with their CI connections through Liza Minnelli, Joel Grey, Michael York, and Roy Scheider.

Yes! I would gladly watch anything with Gregory Peck in it (particularly To Kill A Mockingbird). I would, however, like to toss another movie into the ring, one of my absolute favorite films. CabaretIn honor of all three leads (Liza, Joel Grey, and Michael York) having now guest starred on our beloved LOCI

You know, I forgot about Michael York when I did my post for CUBA LIBRE.

Well...we could nominate only films with CI cast members...

Both films have a lot of excellent angles to discuss, and a good mix of dark and entertaining subject matter. Plus fabulous singing, dancing, and jazz hands

Does anyone have other suggestions for our next discussion movie? So far we have "To Kill A Mockingbird" and "A Gentleman's Agreement" in the drama category, and "Cabaret" and "All That Jazz" in the musical/CI connections category, all with multiple nominations.

I'm not much of a film intellectual type, but I'll agree with the partial suggestion for the original Stepford Wives, since that's the only one I've actually seen ;D (except for To Kill A Mockingbird, which I did for high school English, and still haven't recovered)

"To Kill a Mockingbird" is probably my all time favorite movie, so any excuse to watch it again is a good thing. And I loved "All That Jazz" and haven't seen it in years, "Cabaret" I find eminently watchable, though frustrating. In other words they all sound good to me. ;D

"The Stepford Wives" now has multiple nominations, which brings to 5 the number of titles suggested by more than one member. I'll leave the nominations open until Wednesday June 13, then put up a poll to vote on the discussion movie.

We haven't received any suggestions from the one whose idea this is. LOCIfan?
