So, my friends and I headed out to see a movie on Friday, and picked ENCHANTED as the most likely looking way to pleasantly pass a couple of hours. This movie is considerably more than that, an intelligent, occasionally sharp commentary on the Disney princess movies that's also sweet and charming without becoming saccharine. The film succeeds in making New York City an enchanted place, and the leads are splendid. Patrick Dempsey has the unenviable task of playing the straight man, but he brings just the right combination of charm and skepticism to the part. I'm not familiar with Amy Adams, who plays the princess, but if there's any justice in this world, this young woman will be a major star. She's wonderful.

Ah, I have yet to see this one, but I continue to hear good things about it (people are especially excited about the return of quality 2D Disney animation)! I'm glad to hear you liked it...sounds like it's worth seeing (especially given your review)!

Ms. Andrews does the opening and closing narration, but it's a small role.
