Patcat>> Did you see the "South Park" lampoon of 'The Love Boat?' It was called 'The Catholic Boat....' and it was hilarious!

I gave it an "A", because it was well-done and the characters were terrific. For some reason I just couldn't connect though--it was a very detached, analytical "They're hitting all the right notes tonight", but I just couldn't feel an emotional pull. ("A+" are reserved for the ones that tug at my gut, whether happy or sad feelings.) I chalk it up to being tired and distracted.

PS: Never saw "The Loveboat." How does Kathy Lee Gifford come into this?

So Catbird, on my episode poll grading scale, the A is the equivalent of an A- for you?PS: Never saw "The Loveboat." How does Kathy Lee Gifford come into this? The Love Boat" was a hokey TV show that ran 10 years (!) from the late 1970s-1980s. It was about a cruise ship featuring guest stars who played characters that in any normal universe would be considered the biggest bunch of losers on God's good Earth. Gavin MacLeod played the captain and Rich Grandy the ship's purser, the aptly named Gopher. As for Kathie Lee Gifford, this annoying ex-partner for Regis Philbin once was a shameful shill for the Carnival cruise line. I figured she and "The Love Boat" sort of belonged together as the F grade for this episode. ;D

With tongue firmly planted in cheek, if they have to ask, then what's the point? Kathy Lee was a "singer" years before she married the old football player Frank Gifford, and again if you need to ask, then google him. Anywhoo... her voice was used for the commercials for Carnival Cruise lines. She sang an interpretation of "If They Could See Me Now." If I saw her singing on the deck...well I'd click my heels and want to go to Kansas, and I'm not from that state!

So Catbird, on my episode poll grading scale, the A is the equivalent of an A- for you? Depends on my mood, and the poll! I thought a B would be too low, but like I said I didn't have an emotional connection for A+. Technical and theoretical merits yield an A. What can I say, I'm wishy-washy. And I'm all caught up in syllabi and grading breakdowns and necessary components for the razzerfrazzern papers I have due through the next 8 days, oy. (Which means I'm now at the mode of "How crappy can this be without serious consequences?" I'm at annoyed and rapidly sliding into apathy...sorry for the digression.) And thanks for the explanation. I knew that "Love Boat" was supposed to kind of schlocky, but like I said I never saw it, not even reruns. I'm a youngun, and my parents--for the most part--have taste. All I knew about Kathie Lee was Regis, again never watched. Sometimes being one of the babies of the board is a disadvantage, but at least I didn't sit through those! --Catbird

I definately liked this episode better than any other of the Goren/Eames shows this season. Goren seems to be coming back to life, but he's not quite there yet!!! And yes, D'Onofrio DOES still seem tired, but it makes me wonder if there's really something going on in the background with the Goren character that will come out later on down the road...

...And yes, D'Onofrio DOES still seem tired I've been thinking about what I said in the above, and I think I was wrong. I think Goren seemed somewhat distracted. I mean, he was THERE just felt like part of his mind was elsewhare... Anyone else get this feeling?

No. I liked having my gOren back. He was animated, physical and empathetic towards Joey. I loved seeing the nurturing side of gOren. That was a total turn on for me.

I just gave it an A. I can't believe that I've never rated this episode. I guess because I hadn't yet officially joined the Board when Techguy developed this great Poll. Was still just lurking then. ;D
