When the wife of a controversial televangelist is found dead after a rally/debate between him and his debate opponent, Goren and Eames investigate and determine the death is a result of a homicide, not an accident. Their investigation leads to the discovery that the Reverend has been involved in illicit drugs and sex as a client of a male prostitute who was photographed by camera phone in attendance at the rally. The detectives also discover the existence of an incriminating DVD that might provide a motive for the killing of the Reverend's wife.
During the investigation, Goren also has to deal with important ongoing personal matters. While investigating the Reverend's activities at his church, the detective unexpectedly meets someone who has relevance to these personal issues, but no definite resolution is forthcoming from this meeting. Further investigation leads the detectives to discover that someone with an intense personal involvement in the debate and its topics also has significant personal secrets that have just come to light and which might be relevant to solving the case.
After the killer is identified and apprehended, Goren receives some disturbing information, and learns that his ongoing personal matters remain a mystery with no easy solution.
