And another article, this one from TV Guide Online: Rene Balcer says ... "What is new is that we're broadcasting the same episode on the same night with two different endings on different coasts. The only other time I can think that that happened was during the presidential election of 2000!" ;D LOL! I think he secretly wants the arena to vote thumbs up. Let the girl live, I say!

You must be 18 years of age or older as of October 17, 2004 to vote in the Criminal Intent Viewer's Choice. Exactly how is the age requirement going to be verified and enforced?

And I have three email accounts--I could vote 3 times, I suppose? Just like a Republican in Florida, or a Democrat in Chicago (g).

Nah. Didn't think so.

She's a terrific nemesis? Did he read the script they wrote? See the show? It was boring.
I vote death.
(And why does that sound so familiar? No, not Survivor. Book? Movie? Cliched line?)

Isn't the article quoting Rene Balcer as saying that "she's a terrific nemesis"?

Oh lord. To rehash what I said on another place, I trust the writers to do something decent despite the gimmick, but I dislike being manipulated for ratings. So, do we need to register our emails beforehand? Huh?
Ditto whoever said it two pages ago, I'm not voting til I see then endings. I liked the E/N in "Anti-Thesis", but thought they dropped the ball in "Person of Interest". Maybe this time they'll do it right.
In the ending where they kill her, I just hope it's something anti-climactic, Nicole gets killed in a car accident on the way to the airport or something, so the detectives don't really have anything to do with it. Otherwise we're headed to cliche. (Although, as I mentioned elsewhere, I would love to see Eames break bad on Nicole, wouldn't it be great if Blondie was watching the wrong detective?")
Whaddaya bet that the season DVD set will include both episodes as aprt of a marketing ploy? I don't ahve any fo the DVDs, figure I'll save up or wait til the show goes off the air, but right now it's a heck of a lot cheaper to just throw in a tape. Speaking of, them VCRs will be churning this Sunday!

I think it’s a hoot that even Balcer can’t resist making plays on “Happy Accidents.”

And I have three email accounts--I could vote 3 times, I suppose? Well, it sounds as though they really want to limit this, so they may be looking at computer IDs. If so, they’d recognize your three accounts as coming from the same computer, and might get suspicious. I suppose some allowances would be made for several people voting from the same household... and not everyone has a different computer for each member of the family. So maybe 2 or 3 email accounts from the same computer wouldn’t set them off. But more than that might. They mentioned hackers, so they’re watching for people trying to sneak in large numbers of votes.

Hey, just out of curiosity, how're we gonna work the thread discussionf or this episode? I mean, with everybody spread out across different time zones do we need to have two threads? And lordy, these episode polls ought to prove interesting...
I just wonder what Olivia D'Abo thinks of all this. Most Law & Order fans are intelligent enough to not run up to the actress and scream "You witch-with-a-capital-B, lay off!" BUt you wonder how people react to the-most-divisive-character-on-law-and-order.
And, as I remembered the other day, it's not completely unheard of for Law & Order to bring back an especially creepy criminal. Remember Michael Dobson as protrayed by Larry Miller? OK, he was slimy more than creepy, I just find it interesting no one else has mentioned him.

I should think one thread is enough.
There's only going to be a difference of about two minutes between the East/West versions.
I remember that slime, Dobson. It took McCoy two tries, but he got him. ;D

A review of the episode, from VARIETY:
Law & Order: Criminal Intent
Thu Oct 14, 4:12 PM ET
Brian Lowry, STAFF
NBC, Sun., Oct. 17, 9 p.m.
Filmed in New York by Wolf Films in association with NBC Universal Television Studio. Executive producers, Dick Wolf, Rene Balcer, Fred Berner, Peter Jankowski; co-executive producers, Geoffrey Neigher, Arthur Forney; producers, John L. Roman, Warren Leight; co-producer, Michael Kewley; director, Frank Prinzi; writers, Rene Balcer, Diana Son; story, Son.
Det. Robert Goren - Vincent D'Onofrio Det. Alexandra Eames - Kathryn Erbe (news) District Attorney Ron Carver - Courtney B. Vance Capt. James Deakins - Jamey Sheridan Nicole Wallace - Olivia D'Abo (news)
Both the producer of this third "Law & Order" and star Vincent D'Onofrio insisted during a conference call that this weekend's "Let the audience pick the ending" stunt isn't a gimmick, which is sort of like saying Canada isn't a North American country. The problem, alas, is that it isn't a very good gimmick, at least as executed, though with ABC's "Desperate Housewives" suddenly dominating its timeslot, chalk it up as an interesting experiment for a show with relatively little to lose.
This and other forms of interactivity have been kicked around almost since the advent of videogames, such as producer Chuck Lorre's busted Fox pilot "Nathan's Choice," which would have shot two endings for each episode. (The alternate would air with the rerun, creating a value-added repeat.)
Yet if that idea seemed a bit ahead of its time, "Desperate" times call for desperate measures. So two endings were shot, with half the country to see each Sunday. Viewers will then be able to watch both endings online and vote for the one that they prefer. NBC will reveal the "winner" the following week.
Except for that last 90 seconds or so, it's a pretty standard episode, as the Sherlock Holmes-like Det. Goren (D'Onofrio) again butts heads with the pathological Nicole Wallace (Olivia D'Abo), who had previously beaten a murder rap and twice thwarted his efforts to put her away.
This time, Wallace turns out to have a youthful sidekick, a young woman (Grace Shu) whom she is guiding through a series of daring jewelry heists -- leading to the inevitable game of cat and mouse between criminal and investigator.
Early in its fourth season, "Criminal Intent" remains distinctive in its singular reliance on the Goren character, departing from the "Law" formula that says actors are pretty well interchangeable. Still, the arresting numbers for "Housewives" indicate support for the series might have been millions of viewers wide but not particularly deep, with audience members waiting for something better (or at least different) in which to lose themselves.
Credit NBC and exec producer Rene Balcer with bending the formula and testing the boundaries of the audience's willingness to participate in storytelling, as opposed to passively absorbing it.
The real creativity, though, ultimately comes in gambling on something different, and by that measure, it's hard to imagine the third edition of anything feeling as if it's breaking much in the way of new ground.
Camera, Jonathan Herron; editor, Hibah Sheris Frisina; music, Mike Post; production designer, Leslie Bloom; casting, Lynn Kressel. 60 MIN.

There's only going to be a difference of about two minutes between the East/West versions. Don't forget that a lot of viewers in middle America won't see their version until the East coast version is over.
Oh, and thank you for the link about Sunday's picks, too. Now I'll be sure to follow up my CI viewing with the Anna Nicole special on E! Har har har! Talk about a television odd couple--Det. Goren and Anna Nicole. Only in America.

You know, D'Onofrio and Balcer have done good work on the show, but when they insist that it's not a gimmick...please, don't pee down our backs and tell us it's raining." It's a ratings ploy, I'm sure of it. Or do you think Balcer is giving this to the fans as an "alright, fine, be careful what you wish for" type poke?
OK, so which disfunctional fmaily member does Nicole drag up this episode? Back to Daddy? That enigmatic older brother? Or the father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate? If I weren't a poor college student I'd bet good folding money there will be a reference to Irene Adler/"The Woman" in the episode. I actually reread the short storyt his weekend to keep it fresh in my mind!
