Well, I suspect that Ointmentfly may be correct & they will pair Logan up with a female profiler ..... L&O universe is an annoyingly pc universe when it comes to most minorities & I think they would want to "balance" things out.
Yah, I would like to know for sure as soon as possible to begin to mentally prepare for it.

Metella & Marie,
Yeah, I'm dying to know who the new partner is. If Ointmentfly's info was correct, it'll be an older (40+?) actress with great acting chops from the movie realm. I've been wracking my brain about who they might get, and am wondering if they're not trying to fashion the character after Helen Mirren's Prime Suspect character. Pure speculation on my part. As for the announcement -- well, I'd think Wolf etc... would want to promote the hell out of it as early as possible, to create anticipation (instead of dread) among the fans. Again, no link, just speculating...

The Law & Order shows regularly recycle guest stars from one to another. Sometimes a guest star shows up in a completely different role. Didn't Jerry Orbach appear as a defense lawyer in an early original L&O before he was cast as Lennie Briscoe?
So...I'm thinking another interesting casting choice for Logan's partner could be Viola Davis. CI fans should recall her as the murderous Officer Terry Randolph in "Badge" from Season 2. Based on her bio, Ms. Davis will turn 40 this summer. Her movie credits include "Antwone Fisher," "Solaris" and the 2004 version of "The Manchurian Candidate."
Ms. Davis won a Tony award in 2001, and has guest starred in other TV shows such as "The Practice," "CSI," "Third Watch," and "NYPD Blue" among others. She has also appeared several times as the character Donna Emmett in several "L&O: SVU" episodes.

S. Epatha Merkerson also appeared in the first season episode of L&O called "Mushrooms". She played the mother of two kids shot in their home by mistake. The younger one was only a baby, in diapers. The hired killer was just a young teen, who couldn't read (if I remember correctly) and went to the wrong house. She would, of course, become Lt. Van Buren in the fourth season.

Davis would be a great balancing choice; black, female, new character - so she could become a profiler. I personally would like the choice as she has an interesting and pleasant face that is not a barbie doll face. Her facial expressions in Badge were great. Her background isn't tons famous though. Thanks for more to ponder on.

I agree that a black actress would be a great choice for CI as well as for Logan. Here's a weird choice I just thought of, Courtney Cox. She's a good actress and would make a believable cop, at least for me. And I bet she might jump at the chance to do something completely different than her last TV role - i.e. something meatier.

If her new series doesn't pan out, how about Kirsty Alley or the woman who played Nelda?

Davis was a powerful character in "Badge". I think she'd make a pretty good foil to Logan, and it would be nice to see a "non-barbie" as his partner. I loved how she took Goren's traits in, almost profiler-ish in "BADGE"...she was a tough cookie! I'd kill for Gillian Anderson to be cast in that role, though Wonder what she's been up to lately?

Candace Bergen (trial judge) and Annabella Sciorra (defense attorney) are featured guest stars in the "L&O: Trial by Jury" premiere episode. So if CI is inclined to go to the well of guest stars as potential candidates for Logan's partner, these two ladies would fit the bill.
And Lorraine Bracco (who I liked in the Vincent D'Onofrio version of "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three") is scheduled to appear as a lawyer in upcoming "Jury" episodes. So she would be another candidate for guest-star-turns-regular status in the Logan's partner sweepstakes.

So far, of all the suggested partners, I like Viola Davis best... though I was also thinking Edie Falco would do a great job, if she could free herself to do it. I think she has enough grit and wit while still being intelligent--a good pairing for the somewhat sulky Logan. Another question... I know about the plan for 'elevensies' next season with D'Onofrio and Noth... it was mentioned earlier that they would alternate episodes. Has that been established, or might they be aired in groups...? It would make sense (in order to free each actor's schedule better) if they didn't have to film in such an eeny meeny miny mo fashion, but of course, the episodes don't have to be shown in the order filmed... I wish NBC would give us a hint about this already... give us all time to adjust kissy

In the EW Weekly March 4 article with Wolf, he alluded to the fact they are going to flip-flop Logan and Goren episodes, saying " One week it will be "Popeye" Doyel, and Sherlock Holmes the next week." Which is what I'd expect them to do, so we can have our Goren/Eames fixes in spaced out doses... I still like Ms. Davis as a possible partner for Logan, I just watched her again in "BADGE".

Thanks, MelTex. I only scanned the article when I found it posted elsewhere. I was kind of wondering how they were going to air the epis... Don't want to make up my mind about the Logan character before I've seen what he can do (or his new partner!), it's just... he won't be Goren, and that character is the main reason I watch the show. I like the idea of alternating epis, even if they aren't filmed in order, to better give each actor 'recess,' and to be forthright, that is my own suggestion, I haven't read that anywhere. (Hey, maybe Vincent's hair will give away shooting out of order again like it did in Want...WHOA, WRONG THREAD AND JUST KIDDING!!!) thanks again! kissy

Well, I'm getting a little irritated at not having any solid hints drops on who the new partner is - really, this casting and the development of this character is going to be the only thing that will keep this criminal intent or will let it become another cop show; so for me, my whole ability to watch this as the show it was hinges on this new partner & if it can stay connected to the criminal.
