A poster on another L&O group noted that NBC recently signed a contract to aid NFL Football on Sunday nights starting with the 2006/2007 season. Now there's an obvious conflict with LOCI, if the show goes for a 6th season.
I have another reason to hate football.

They could always switch CI to another night and go on for more seasons. I wouldn't have been surprized if they would have changed it already due to the popularity of Desperate Housewives, but CI is still holding it's own -- just not winning the night anymore.
I don't know what other show NBC has that could compete with DH better than CI has. Not knowing what sort of ratings the NFL gets, I can't say if it has anything to do with ratings, but I wouldn't cross it off.

well, I totally enjoy football; ah bones crunching and tight pant-huddle shots.
anyway .....
I would say that the football crowd is for the most part, NOT a DHousewife crowd & would be a smart move if DH stays on the air, which, unfortunately, it seems it will. So, it would be a good move for NBC to run football on sunday night. I'll be glad to migrate to any night that CI is shown ...

LOCI to move to Monday? News from the Hollywood Reporter found by Trish and Karen at The Reel. April 26, 2005 By Diane Mermigas "... Football is an effective cross-promotional vehicle to lean on while NBC is rebuilding its primetime schedule. That could include moving "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "Crossing Jordan" to Monday nights to begin its week with some ratings and financial momentum, sources say. Producing new lucrative series franchises is a fickle process that only can be helped by marketing to the largest number of riveted viewers. NBC has been able to generate more than $1 billion in sales annually from Dick Wolf's "Law & Order" franchise in all of its configurations." Trisha, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for not only posting the article and related link to the source, but also being respectful to the administrators of The Reel site and crediting them as the source for the find. It is so important to the sense of camaraderie between the various sites and spreading the love, as it were. Also our thanks to all of the other forum members who cite the various sources and give credit where credit is due.

Well I'm glad this was brought up - I have to say that making the words THE REEL so people could check out the other site was really cool for my tech impaired self .... and I have noticed some kind of "I got it first" thing going on with just a small number of people & really; we can ALL get the info, it is just
1) nice to share & save blokes like me the time of surfing and
2) more than nice to give total credit and share existance and our mutual likes with each other.
3) really weenie to take something from a site and pretend that the site doesn't exist
I used to scan avidly for all things D'Onofrio; now I have no time and I really appreciate the REEL site and others where things are consolidated and I have faith that they are as avid as I am; so by a visit to them, I am getting all the D'Onofrio fix there is out there to get.
Thanks to the other sites that open themselves up for sharing!

#3 is what irritates me because it strips away at the spirit of friendship I expect there to be among the fans. We don't have to be best friends, but we can at least be respectful to one another. None of us wrote the articles, or took the photos. Hiding, hording, and "stealing" them from others breaks the fans into little factions. It one thing to stick more to a group you feel most comfortable with, and another to actively disrespect other groups as a way of promoting your group. For those who do this, grow the hell up.
We're all fans of the same show and the same people. Let's celebrate the things we have in common instead of focusing on, and thus multiplying our differences.

I've sent information to this board and THE REEL, and the ladies at THE REEL are terrific about acknowledgements. I think this is all about sharing and being good to one another. Being an LOCI and D'Onofrio fan should not be a competitive endeavor.

I agree, sharing finds and giving credit for the sources is the mature way to participate in fandom. To do otherwise, to "steal" from other sources, or hoard what one finds all the while dangling teasing carrots out as a show of oneupmanship, is so totally against the spirit of what it means to be a fan of a show or an actor.
Granted, most of us don't know one another personally, and maybe the tone and flavor of a particular board may not suit one's personal taste. But there really is no excuse for rudeness or engaging in what I call cyber "ethnic cleansing" via outright blatant pillaging of other sites without gracefully acknowledging the sources from which the information came.
BTW, and assuming CI is still around after next season's experiment with Chris Noth as Mike Logan--if the show moves to Monday nights, will it be the lead-in for "Medium" or move into its time slot, thus bumping "Medium" to a different day/time?

Hmmm. I'm still a bit of an outsider and I'm a bit confused by the idea of hoarding. I have hundreds of D'Onofrio articles (courtesy of my obssesed sister!) and have them stored on my computer. I swap and trade lots of information and and articles with many, many people outside this board but not with anyone here. I could cause a crash if I were to post all of the articles I have! I've thought of posting some of the stuff but thought no one would be that interested and thought the mods wouldn't like me too much for crashing the board! An example of something I learned abot D'Onofrio: He injured his knee while filming Full Metal Jacket and had to have surgery which explains his slight limp. The source is a book about Stanley Kubrick with some pages about D'Onofrio. Now, if I can just get the name of the book to pass along...unless someone beats me to it! hehehehe Sorry if I sound like I'm whining or being paranoid again. If so, just cyber slap me. If there is something of interest I have that I could share, I should would like to.

Does it say whether it was his right knee? That’s the one I’ve thought might be bothering him this season. I couldn’t believe, in the scene with April’s father and uncle at the hospital in Eosphoros, that no one in production bothered to find him a chair with a seat higher than his knees. Sitting down and standing up from a chair lower than your knees is hard on anyone; and with rehearsals and takes, God knows how many times he was getting up and down. By the time they filmed the take they used in the episode it was clearly hurting. I’ve had enough trouble with my knee to have some idea of what that’s like... it was pretty upsetting to see, especially when something as simple as someone locating a chair of decent height would have made a big difference.
As far as the articles in general go, I imagine this site has a pretty big capacity... but you could check with the moderators about whether they’d rather you limit the size/number of articles you post. A number of us have seen most of the easily available articles and interviews; but I think there’d be a lot of interest in any that people haven’t seen yet. Could you let us know some of what you’ve got that hasn’t been posted here or on the REEL site yet?
Going back to the original subject of this thread, I don’t mind Criminal Intent moving to a different day of the week – especial if Desperate Housewives is still running. But like Metella, I’m a football fan... so why does it have to be Monday?? The best teams, and the best match-ups, are scheduled for Monday Night Football. And now that Gibbs has returned, my own local team will probably be on Monday Night Football regularly again. Why couldn’t they move Criminal Intent to Tuesday? I’ll hate missing an hour of the game...

I'll try to share more articles when time permits. I have some collected as well. One of the isses is that if an article is long, it has to be spread over multiple posts in a thread. Sometimes the article needs to be retyped if scanned, etc.
On the original subject, I am a bit confused, not being a season football fan. I thought that "Monday Night Football" was becoming "Sunday Night Football" due to licensing between the networks.
Is there now going to be football BOTH nights?
Thanks,
D.

Not a big fan, eh? There’s been football on both nights for as long as I’ve been watching – since sometime in the mid-‘80s, a few years into Joe Gibbs’ first term as head coach in Washington. (As a medical worker, I disapproved of the game... but Gibbs and the team he put together won me over.) During the regular season, it seems to me that we get three or more games on Sunday, just on the big networks – 1pm, 4pm and 8pm. Plus untold numbers on cable. Sometimes we get a game or two on Saturday, and I think there are two on Thanksgiving, though one of them is the “main feature.” That’s an even bigger honor than being on Monday Night Football. But Monday Night Football has it’s own theme song, and much more cool opening credits! I guess the 8pm (primetime) game on Sunday must be kind of a big deal, though I hadn’t really registered it as such (since it’s the one I always miss at least part of). That seems to be what NBC has gotten the rights to. But it won’t replace Monday Night Football. In fact, the same season that NBC starts showing football on Sunday night, Monday Night Football will move from a broadcast network to ESPN. Whoa, I just realized, I think the network is mentioned in the theme song... I hope they don’t have to give up the song... it’s really become part of the tradition. Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!?! ;D

My take on the subject of TV coverage of NFL games is this. The league wanted to move the broadcasts of its marquee games from Monday nights (not the best night for viewers, especially in recent years) to Sunday nights, the #1 night for TV viewership. The NFL wanted the Sunday night games on an over the air channel, since cable is not available in all TV households. If ABC did not have the ratings bulldozer "Desperate Housewives" in its Sunday night lineup, the network would have gone along with the wishes of the NFL.
Enter NBC, which has been absent from NFL game coverage for eight years, and "desperate" to counter the female friendly DH phenomenon with programming more appealing to male viewership in the coveted 18-49 age group demographic. While CI has been doing well, its ratings have suffered this year opposite DH, so NBC bit on the NFL carrot to the tune of $600 million for the TV rights for six years. Beginning in 2006, NBC will dedicate the entire four hour bloc of prime time on Sunday nights to the NFL games, which means it can move CI and Crossing Jordan to another night to bolster NBC's programming schedule.
The end result of the NFL shell game? There still will be NFL games on Monday nights, except that they are moving from an over the air channel (ABC) to the cable channel ESPN. And the Sunday night games will move from ESPN on cable to over the air channel NBC.
There has been speculation that in 2006, CI is headed for Monday nights in the 10pm ET time slot. But that would mean "Medium," already renewed for the 2005-06 season and expected to continue, would have to be moved to another night and/or time.
Of course, all this moving and shaking is predicated on CI being around after Season 5, which puts even more pressure on the split episodes format between Goren and Logan next year to succeed in the ratings battle between CI and DH.
