More than just us?
Oh.
Well, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

I've read the comments, etc. about loggin in and so forth, and my question may well fit in there somewhere. i've typed in my username and password and then told the site to remember it. However, when I return to the board, it requires me to sign in as though I've never been there. Am I missing some step in the process to stay logged in?

When you click to stay logged in, the site gives you a cookie. If that cookie is deleted, or rejected, you have to sign in again. If you are not deleting your cookies on your own, it may have to do with the browser you are using, or your security settings.

Thank you for your reply. I did, in fact, clean out cookies and temp files, but I didn't think about losing the automatic sign-in. For the future, I'll know.

I just perused the "What!, there are other shows beside law and order" thread. I love the subtle humour that pervades the administrative side of this site. It reminds me of the earlier episodes of The Simpsons when the writers used to embed tiny satires into the odd scene.

I tried to reply to the Concerned thread and the reply button dissapeared. Yet other threads are fine. Is that thread locked? I'm having the same problem now with the "Semi-Detached" thread. The response to Domenicaflor was that it was a site bug, a glitch. Is this what's going on now, and will it be fixed soon?

I won't toss any newbie just for not fitting in; as long as they follow the guidelines and are respectful - I figure they can be a square peg as long as they want. I am also of the mind that a good healthy membership has (as we DO) a good mix of differing opinions. I am also of the mind (not criminal or master) that any member here should feel free to invite anyone they choose - as long as they stress that this is a moderated and focused board, no need to invite someone who we know will not enjoy being here. Just dragging this subject back up, and bringing it a more appropriate local... Invite whomever you wish, but like Major Hathaway wrote, don't invite someone you think won't enjoy this forum the way it is. We have a lot of rules, and we enforce them actively. That said, I would really appreciate if when you invite friends, that you give them the main site address, www.criminal-intent.us. To get to the message board from the our home site, members have to agree to abide by the rules stated in the General Format & FAQ. If you just give them the address to the message board, they may skip the FAQ, and start off by making a lot of mistakes. If you are giving them the main site address, be sure to stress that skipping the format and FAQ is a bad idea if they want to get along with the moderators here. We don't mind the occasional mistake, we all make them, but frequent violations of the FAQ suggest that the member has not read the rules or just doesn't care about them. Either case will result in expulsion.

Hi there...I noticed the poll I added last night isn't there anymore. Did I break any rules? I know it wasn't a straught "a b c d" in terms of the quality of an episode, but the prior poll wasn't like that either so I thought it would be okay.

Rose, it shows up for me if you are referring to the one about the poll if Nicole lives & if the members liked GB ..... if that is the one & it is still not showing up for you - let me know.

Rose, I moved your poll to the General CI section. I did so for 2 reasons: 1) there was already a poll to grade Great Barrier. 2) your poll did not contain letter grades. I sent you a pm to explain this right after I moved it, did you not get it? Sorry for the misunderstanding

Either case will result in expulsion. Thank you Criminal Mastermind and Major Hathaway for being active moderators. I appreciate that there are a set of groundrules and that they are clearly stated. I feel that it really improves the board's organization, makes topics easier to find, and also sets up appropriate common expectations of the membership. To add a comment to your recommendation about inviting appropriate prospective members: I agree 100% Every board has its own unique vibe or "flavor". This vibe may work well for some and not for others. If you recommend someone with an opposing vibe, you yourself may run into personal problems if moderator action is later taken. Unfortunately I have seen that happen in other internet venues more than once, and it just leads to unnecessary drama instead of fostering participation, which is the original goal. Big props also to the CI-US membership. It is refreshing and gratifying to have a board with consistently high levels of interesting, intelligent, diverse discussion AND maturity AND open-mindedness all at the same time. D.

I’m puzzled about the caption polls. I only see 4 options for voting on the Posthumous Collection caption poll. Is that the limit? Neither of my favorite captions is included in the poll. Is there any preliminary polling about which ones are generally liked, or is it kind of like the Nicole situation with only specific, pre-set options?

No preliminary polling, just the ones make us laugh hardest. Sirenna owes me a new keyboard, btw The main reason we keep the number of options down is because so few members vote on the caption contest polls, or for that matter, any of the polls. The larger the number of options we have, the more spread out the votes are. At one time, Major Hathaway posted a poll with more than 4 options and it seemed that everyone voted for themselves. We don't want to choose a winner in the case of a tie, and we don't want to start more than one poll per caption contest. So, until we have more participation, we are limiting the number to 3 or 4. If any of you have ideas on how to improve the system, we are open you your suggestions. Please keep in mind that we have a limited amount of time to spend working on the site and message board. As Domenica noted a while back, we do have other jobs outside of running this place

Criminal Mastermind:
I'm a firm believer in the maxim: get them serious first, then show them deal breakers like who you really are.
Why do you think 40% of all marriages succeed?
The keyboard's in the mail btw - along with all those checks. ;D
