H-m-m. So maybe the theme of the season is to be Goren's increasing identification with criminals?

I could have sworn I saw Goren's head off to the edge of one shot. BUt if that wasn't him, I doubt he'd be kidnapped, that's gaining on soapy. Maybe he ogt a bit enthused agian and wound up suspended for a brief bit? COurse, it's about time for Eames to break bad on Nicole. Wouldn't it be cool if E/N winds up "watching the wrong detective"? Oh shoot, gotta go pull laundry out. At least all the dryers are working this year. Later all, Catbird Hi all, i'm new here... 1st post ever ;D just had to say that before i posted LOL Yes i would also SOOO love to see Alex break it off in nicole's a$$ in a big way, being as she doesnt reapect her at all & underestimates her in a huge way which i believe will be her undoing. I was raised on the philosiphy that if you begin to underestimate your enemies then you become weakened to them, you should always aknowledge both the strengths & weaknesses of your enemies.... & still hate their guts as well LOL "I've locked you in before & I'll do it again." -Lorelai, Gilmore Girls season 4 finale

Hello and welcome to the group, Kawaiidragonfoe821.
I'm not exactly sure of how I want the Nicole Wallace angle to proceed. Part of me wants her to show up periodically to annoy the hell out of Goren.
And then I come to my senses, slap myself in the face, and wake up from my nightmare.
Seriously, I don't want her to keep coming back again and again with no purpose other than to rock the boat and play with Goren's head. There has to be a more significant and useful purpose behind her or any other villain character being written into an episode.
After thinking about it a lot, I have come to the conclusion that she is a one-dimensional character who has overstayed her welcome--unless the CI writers are suddenly divinely inspired and come up with a script for the ages.
So unless this masterful script materializes, I hope her next appearance is her last.

Looks like they are putting the fate of Miss E-N in the fans' voting hands...... Judging from the reactions on various fan boards, methinks the voters will choose to sink Bobby's blonde nemesis off the side of the reef...... D. *********************** BURBANK, Calif. -- October 6, 2004 -- In a network first, NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (Sundays, 9-10 p.m. ET) original episode "Great Barrier" will give viewers the option to choose their favorite "killer" ending in an episode to be broadcast on Sunday, October 17 (9-10 p.m. ET). Two versions of the episode's ending have been shot, in which a female murderer (guest star Olivia D'Abo, "The Wonder Years") will either live or be killed -- based on the outcome of a vote conducted on www.nbc.com. On the night of October 17, one ending will be telecast to viewers in the Eastern time zone while the other will be telecast to those living in the Central, Mountain and Pacific time zones (including Alaska and Hawaii). Immediately following the episode, fans will be able to log on to www.nbc.com to view both endings and cast their vote, determining the fate of the character Nicole Wallace (D'Abo). Voting will be live through Wednesday, October 20. The most popular ending to "Great Barrier" will be revealed during the following week's Sunday, October 24 broadcast. The audience will be alerted at the beginning of that night's new episode that the people's final choice from the previous week's episode will be shown at the end of the hour. In the episode, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) track a mysterious young diamond "swallower" (guest star Grace Shu) who is being manipulated by Nicole Wallace (D'Abo) ? Goren's murderous and chameleon-like nemesis. As Goren closes in on Wallace, he discovers a horrifying secret that may allow him to finally close the book on his lethal adversary. The fourth-year series stars D'Onofrio as Goren, an exceptionally bright and compassionate homicide investigator with well-honed instincts that are a match for his most devious criminal quarry. Likewise, his partner, Eames (Erbe), brings a no-nonsense and stylish edge to her work that meshes well with Goren. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star. The drama is a production of Wolf Films in association with NBC Universal Television Studio. Dick Wolf, Rene Balcer, Fred Berner and Peter Jankowski are executive producers.

My first reaction was: "Oh, that's SO cool!" (You see how articulate I am after two papers being turned in...and the redundancy of Athanasius is not helping matters.) But now I'm wondering--this isn't like "Law & Order", since when do the fans determine a storyline? Is this some sort of ploy to tap into the reality-show gimmick?
Either way, these will definitely be nights to crank the VCRs. Can we vote with conditions: "Live, but in prison with no chance at parole"?
Can't wait to see how they do this!

PS: Well, there's nothing about this on the NBC page just now. Probably they'll ge tthrough this Sunday's and then hype it up.#nosmileys

Yeah, they must really be conflicted about the reactions they've seen on all the message boards. Maybe we should have our own vote .... heading to the general discussion section now.

This sounds like the Madalyn Murray O'Hare (spelling?) case of several years ago.

EOSPHOROS: It's from Greek mythology, he was the god of the evening morning star or east wind depending on what source you check. I think there might also be a literary character, but I'm not sure. Anyone else?
ETA: Doh! Observer2, you're right. I got distracted and typed the wrong word. And, hmmm, I had totally forgotten the Lucifer correlation.

This sounds like the Madalyn Murray O'Hare (spelling?) case of several years ago. Patcat Yeah, I recognized the elements from that case, too. There are some significant differences, though. I’ll be interested to see where they go with it. Eosphoros is a quite an interesting name... In early Greek mythology, Eosphoros was the Morning Star or Dawn Star – the name means “dawn bringer,” and he was thought to be the son of the goddes of the dawn, Eos. The Evening Star was thought to be different, and called something like Hesphorus. At some point they figured out that they were the same “star” – actually a planet, which the Romans eventually called Venus. Before they called it Venus, though, they called it the Latin word for light bringer – Lucifer. And, of course, that name got tied in with the mythos of a certain fallen angel... So there are all sorts of possible connotations with this title.

I look forward to finding out what those " possible connotations" are after the episode airs. Thanks for the information, rune and Observer
