Of course, I have to disagree with you, Metella! ;D
I actually like the N/E vs Goren storyline.
Rene Balcer takes such pains to avoid connecting storylines beyond their episodes because it hurts syndication, so I think he's chosen to break this self-imposed rule to serve a purely literary objective. It would be interesting to see the episode and then discuss why he keeps bringing E/N back.

Interesting that this is the second episode of the 4th season. I wonder if the Evil One will be around to torture Goren and us for the entire season.

I think I am another member of the few who likes the E/N vs Goren saga. For me, it makes him human to appear vulnerable at times. It also offers an opportunity for some out of uniform(suit/tie) scenes. There is something eternal in this struggle of good and evil. They are both strong actors and boil very nicely together. She is meant to be his intellectual match and it shows. Darth Vader and Obe One K struggle for supremacy.
As long as the approaches are fresh, I like their interaction.
I have only seen them act together in VoG and her part was not meaty enough. I like their chemistry and have always hoped they would do something together where she is not merely the supporting character. Olivia uses facial expressions and expressive eyes to convey her emotion. She has a more contained acting style. Vincent's bold gestures and in you face interaction compliment her technique.
I look forward to The Great Barrier

I didn't care for the E/N storyline simply because of the second episode. It was just a rehash of the much more interesting Anti-Thesis. I just hope they get away from the formula used in the first two episodes. If they actually make her seem like a nemesis rather than an annoyance, it could redeem the storyline.

I've posted elsewhere that my main problem is that the Evil One has, so far, been better as an idea than as executed. Her plots are far too complicated and depend too much on everyone doing exactly what she wants. But the idea of this petite, charming, always dressed in white, blonde woman as a Moriarty figure is a brilliant one, and I think D'Abo does as well as she can with the role.
I also think it's interesting that Eames and the Evil One are both small blondes.

A change in the listings from NBCMV-- "THE POSTHUMOUS COLLECTION" (X)10/03/04(9:00PM-10:00PM) :PHOTO FINISH FOR CONTROVERSIAL ARTIST LEADS DETECTIVES TO SEARCH FOR MURDERED MODELS -- When a famous, avante garde photographer is found murdered and handcuffed to the steering wheel of a crashed car, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) probe the victim's controversial works and his tortured past -- but they make a grisly discovery that a dead model had been used at the site of a former photo shoot. When other similarly pretty women are found missing, the investigators suspect that the secretive artist was exploiting them to gain an ugly new perspective for his lagging career until Goren studies the artwork and arrives on a new theory. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.. ::)NBC has just changed the schedule for October 3. POSTHUMOUS COLLECTION will air at 9 (EST) followed by GREAT BARRIER at 10. The NBC media village site has photos from both episodes. Interestingly enough, the photos of GREAT BARRIER show Kathryn Erbe and Olivia d'Abo only, and none with Vincent D'Onofrio. Maybe there will be a confrontation between Eames and the Evil One.

Eames is trying to find out where he is before...the show is over and the writers are forced to bring Nicole back for another episode.

I could have sworn I saw Goren's head off to the edge of one shot. BUt if that wasn't him, I doubt he'd be kidnapped, that's gaining on soapy. Maybe he ogt a bit enthused agian and wound up suspended for a brief bit? COurse, it's about time for Eames to break bad on Nicole. Wouldn't it be cool if E/N winds up "watching the wrong detective"?
Oh shoot, gotta go pull laundry out. At least all the dryers are working this year. Later all,

I doubt he'd be kidnapped, that's gaining on soapy. It seems my attempt at making a joke did not have the desired effect. I was just sounding off about how the CI writers could use an excuse to bring Nicole back for yet another round in the ring. But the joke's on me, it fell flat. Perhaps I could use a ghost writer for my humor from now on. At any rate, I'm checking the clock, and there's just a little over 7 hours to go to the launch of Season 4.

No, Techguy, my sense of humor takes a while to wake up. It wasn't you. Besides, I've been distracted with work today. But the new ones aren't too far away!

While I don't mind the whole E/N thing, I must agree with Metella and say "overdone". After all, you can only milk things for so long before it starts to sour.
I will admit though that there's a nice little pun in the title. "The Great Barrier" as in the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. Clever.
Let's just hope this is the last we see of E/N.
I agree. If anyone can get the edge on Nicole I feel it's Eames because from APoI, it seems to me that Nicole has a tendency to underestimate her. I mean her comment "all that and she can bake a cake too" was so obviously "I'm better than you and you'll never get me" that it's clear she doesn't think much of Eames or sees her as a threat.
