"Inert Dwarf" ** 11-07-2004 @9:00
WILL GOREN AND EAMES WEAR DUNCE CAP - OR DISCOVER THEORY OF INTELLIGENT LIFE IN MURDER OF SCIENTIST? AUSTIN PENDLETON GUEST-STARS -- When a tormented scientist is murdered by radiation poisoning, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) discover that the victim was working with Dr. Manotti (guest star Austin Pendleton, "A Beautiful Mind"), a famous physicist in a wheelchair, on the controversial "Theory of Everything" - an unproven design that would re-configure the definition of the universe. Even as the police duo suspects the brainiac's beautiful and controlling trophy wife, they are curious about an approaching international conference in Berlin that would require Manotti to explain his theory - which would ensure his scientific immortality. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.

42!!
"Scientist in a wheelchair". Well, it's not a bad phrase, although it'll be interesting to see how they handle this situation. Fortunately the L&O writers are usually pretty sensitive and respectful, so hopefully they won't do anything idiotic. This past summer I worked in an office that advocated for people with disabilities, so I very quickly got sucked into person-first language, proper body language, etc. Anyways, I trust CI that I won't have to get too indignant! All else fails I just call my boss, and trust me, you don't want to get on her bad side!

"Inert Dwarf" sounds like this description from the September 19, 2004 TV Guide that was posted in another thread:
PERSONALITY PROFILES: Balcer says to look for characters inspired by famous folks, including "a paraplegic genius trying to solve the riddle of the cosmos" just like Stephen Hawking...

They've been rearranging episodes every five minutes seems like, but here's the new listing from nbcumv.com...
SILVER LINING 11-14-2004 9:00PM
GOLD-SHIELD DETECTIVES CHASE WILY BURGLAR WHO HAS LETHAL PREFERENCE FOR SILVER -- A female antique appraiser is murdered, and Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) lock onto the trail of an elusive, highly organized and proficient thief (as Wesley, guest star David Harbour) who specializes in lifting priceless silver settings. The Major Case squad discovers a long line of burglaries attributed to their taunting suspect -- but an arrest will only stick if they can link him to his treasure stash of valuables. Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance also star.

No episode on the 28th. It's "Shrek", followed by a musical version of "A Christmas Carol". The preview made it look interesting. Hey Trisha...Jesse L. Martin will be playing the ghost of Christmas past!

Ah, yes!! Here we go with the specials that cancel out LOCI. Don't misunderstand me, I do like the good holiday specials. It seemed that last year, however, December had several pre-emptions that weren't very good and made missing LOCI seem like punishment.

If I read correctly, Kelsey Grammer will be the Scrooge to Jesse L. Martin's Ghost. While I don't think anybody can top Michael Caine and the Muppets, I'll be sure to see how this one goes!
I do miss the regular CI episodes in December. Of course, I haven't been able to watch CI on Sunday night for over a month--thank heavens for VCRs--and in the holiday season things do get nutty. I just hope that this year's round of specials aren't poopy.

Given D'Onofrio's illness and recent hospitalizations, I think the viewers should be prepared for extra reruns.

Yes, you are most likely right, Dom. I do not want V. ill, that's for sure, but I won't object to any reruns. This is all so worrisome.

Reruns are better than no CI.
I don't know if there's other Canadians on the board besides Sirenna and I.....extra episode on CTV on Friday, November 26th at 9:00 (Conscience).
