I just saw where Heroes will have a new episode on March 5 and return with new episodes in mid or late April. ER had a new episode on 2/22 and will be back on April 12. Will NBC make us wait until April 10 to see a new CI or even SVU? I hope not. I really dislike the networks scheduling most of their new episodes around sweeps. If they renew both the mothership and CI maybe they should air say new episodes of the mothership and then air new episodes of CI in the same timeslot. This way they could have new episodes all year round in a timeslot since they have ample time to do reruns on Sat. and in the summer for that matter they could air the L&O reruns of the L&O not currently airing on Sat.
There is a very good reason for 24 doing well-- new episodes every week no interruptions.

Will NBC make us wait until April 10 to see a new CI or even SVU? . There is a very good reason for 24 doing well-- new episodes every week no interruptions. After the L/W episode "30" there should be only 6 new CI episodes left, 3 for each team. They have to be spread over March, April and into May sweeps so I'm expecting lots of reruns in the coming weeks.
Doesn't "24" start its new season in January? If so there's the advantage of a mid-season start and something for the NUTS to consider when discussing CI's fate. As much as there is resistance to waiting longer after the summer for new CI, a CI return to Sunday nights after NFL football is over would have a dual benefit. It would allow for continuous airings of new episodes with no reruns, and also take the show away from the competition from "House" and "The Unit" on Tuesday nights.

Yes 24 starts in mid Jan. by airing a 2 night 2 hour premiere and then having another 2 hour episode some Monday night along the way and then a 2 hour finale in mid May. By delaying the show until Jan. and airing on Mondays the show can air non stop with out any preemptions whatsoever and it does not have to oppose any big award show or sporting event or get preempted for a 2 hour American Idol.
Ever since this has happened with season 4 the show has been doing better than ever. As a viewer it is the one show that I know each Monday at 9 p.m. it will be airing a new episode. However, I do think that FOX does this also because serialized 24 does not rerun well at all.
The only thing that would stop NBC from doing this would be the fact that even against House/Idol, Unit, Dancing, etc.. even L&O:CI reruns still have more viewers than some of the other old and new NBC shows. Just this past Saturday, the show had over 7 million viewers which is more than Friday Night Lights, Studio 60, or 30 Rock. SVU is about the only NBC drama that reruns better than CI.

That's interesting, but what are the demographics for FNL, S60 and 30R compared to CI's? Doesn't the type of audience count as much, if not more, as number of overall viewers?
I still think whether or not CI returns, and its eventual time slot if it does, will depend on what new shows NBC has waiting in the wings, and the cost analysis results when the NUTS bean counters evaluate the pros and cons of renewing CI vs. a cheaper reality type show.

Yes this is very true. In fact CI's ratings will probably have less to do with whether it is renewed than how NBC perceives the future of the new shows or other older shows. I do think NBC needs to throw both SVU and CI viewers a "new episode bone" before April 10. March and early April need more than just new episodes of Black Donnellys and Raines or delayed Crossing Jordan and Medium. Or some NBC viewers will find it too easy to dismiss NBC come late April/early May. FNL and 30 Rock do not do as well even in demos as CI and Studio 60 sometimes gets a 3 but it always drops in the second half hour. Studio 60 has the best leadin on the network with the highest demos (6) and total viewers (13 or 14 million) and it drops to 2 or 3 in demos and then drops to 6 or 7 million in total viewers. 30 Rock drops even past low rated Scrubs and rarely if ever has the demos of a low rated CI. The same is true for FNL. When it comes down to it, the only shows that do much better than CI in demos or total viewers have already been renewed (ER, SVU, Earl, Office, Heroes)

Thanks for the insightful comments. It looks like the NUTS have only committed to what they perceive as "sure things" in their network programming crap shoot. I suppose we'll find out soon enough how much of a risk they're willing to take, and which shows will end up as hold 'em or fold 'em.

Running repeats as much as they do is not a good way to win over viewers. Quite frankly I've stopped watching many shows that go away for long periods of time because I lose interest. Fortunately for CI I am so invested in Goren and Eames I will tune in and anxiously await new epis. It's one of my OCD things it seems. Most people aren't me, however.
As an avid viewer of 24 and Kieffer Sutherland's Jack Bauer, I must say what they did with 24 was perfect. I stopped watching shows like Alias and Lost because they keep running repeats or going away for months on end.

Per news releases from nbcumv: Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 10:00PM...............Weeping Willow Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 10:00PM...............World's Fair Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at 9:00PM...................Bedfellows (according to one release) and according to another release: SILENCER? at 9:00PMESTEEMED EAR SURGEON KILLED AFTER TESTIFYING AGAINST COLLEAGUE -- When esteemed ear surgeon, Dr. Jack Mallory (guest star Jack MacGruder) is found murdered in his office, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) suspect a prescription pusher. After further investigation, the detectives learn the doctor had testified in a controversial case involving another doctor -- Dr. Strauss (guest star Timothy Carhart) -- who had performed a cochlear implant on a baby. The baby got an infection and died as a result of the surgery, leaving the deaf community with strong opinions about the procedure. Detectives Goren and Eames race to uncover a tangled web of beliefs in a community they're not members of. Eric Bogosian also stars. ETA: And it would seem that CTV is also going to start showing episodes on Mondays at 4:00PM effective March 5 th. That's in addition to what it's airing this Monday at 9:00PM ("30"). Edited to remove airdate of March 20th.

Thanks for the update, Nikki. I'd heard a bit about deaf culture. This should be an interesting episode.

Oh, Good! Can't wait to see those big hands of Goren's "signing." A deaf plotline without Marlee Matlin in it? She's so good, would have loved to see her in this. I think Bobby would have liked her.

The NBCumv news release about the "Bedfellows" rerun came in AFTER the release about "Silencer." So I'm guessing we won't see the new G/E episode until at least March 27, unless NBC changes its schedule again.
