Hi all! This is one of my favorite episodes, for a lot of the same reasons people listed above. I loved how well Goren and Eames were so in sync in this episode. And I really felt for poor Wally Stevens. Mark Linn-Baker did an outstanding job portraying this character and I think that he and Vincent D'Onofrio had such wonderful chemistry together. Just a little side note, Mark Linn-Baker does a wonderful job narrating audio books.
We know Wally Stevens will play an important role in the events in ENDGAME. How does that (or does it) effect the viewing of this episode? I saw this episode before endgame so it didn't effect my first viewing or even my subsequent viewings since. I always felt that he thought he was helping Goren by passing on the information from Mark Ford Brady. I think he thought Brady wanted to atone for his sins and that was why he told where the scrapbook was. I don't think he had any idea the game Brady intended to play with Goren.
Eames' comment about the "older geekier Brother" would she make it now? What is Goren's reaction to it? Boy, I wish she would. I agree with TJara that this is something missing from the last few seasons and I really miss it. I think he was amused by it and could see the truth of it. I love that whole scene. The look on Eames' face during that whole encounter is great.
We know that Goren does become Wally's "pen pal". Is this a case of "no good deed goes unpunished"? I think that Brady would have found a way to contact Goren with or without Wally. I am sure knowing that Goren was most likely his son, he kept tabs on him throughout his life. He could have had his lawyer contact Goren. I think having Wally in that episode was a way to reward loyal viewers.
Does Goren's remark about shelters indicate a personal knowledge of them? I also agree with Tjara on this, I think it is thru his work and maybe his dealings with Frank. I don't think he himself ever lived in one.
If Bernard hadn't gotten greedy could this scam have con't? Sure, But I agree with Tjara that the plan was for 15.
What made this case Major case at first? I really don't know. I know Leo was killed in an industrial zone but would that really make it Major Case? Maybe it was because they didn't know if it was murder or an accident.
What is Eames' reaction to watching Goren work with Wally? I think I answered this above. I think she was highly amused.
How does Goren react to Wally? I think he is fascinated by Wally and I agree with LadyHeather that he see's a little of himself in Wally.
Is Wally the most sympathetic of LOCI villains? Yes I think he is. Even though he is responsible for the deaths of 14 people I still feel sorry for him. I think that is due to Mark Linn-Baker. I don't think I would have felt as sorry for him if it was somebody else portraying him.
Did the French women really not know about the murders? I think she knew all along. After all how was she to collect the insurance money if they weren't dead?
What happened to cause Leo Gergis' Downfall? It never really said did it. His brother mentioned he was always good at taking care of his own needs, so maybe he was an alcoholic or a gambling addict.
Will Leo's family have to give up the insurance money? I am sure they will, insurance companies will do anything to not to have to pay out.
How did Wally manage to get Married? That is a great question. I don't have that much experience with autism and I know Asperger's is at the high end of the spectrum, but I always thought autistic individuals had a hard time making personal connections esp. with people outside of their family. I think his lack of personal connections made it easy for him to plan people's murders. But how did he get married? Tjara's answer is as good as any I could come up with.
I also agree with you Tjara on Eames always being a more equal partner with Goren than some other's give her credit for. She is usually the one to do most of the interviews while Goren does his nosy, let me see what the room can tell me bit. I watched SEMI-PROFESSIONAL not to long ago, which is a first season episode, and they are total partners in that episode. I love the scene where Eames is interviewing the judge and Goren is looking into everything. I love the look on the judge's lawyer's face as Goren is looking into the boxes on the table.
