Is no one here interested in last night's new L/W episode? A bit lightweight, IMO, but also a refreshing break of entertainment from the other, emotionally two-ton (G/E) CI series. It was a decent yarn from writer Peter Blauner, with a couple of genuinely witty moments and a nice wee plot twist at the end. In addition -- Noth was appealingly svelte and rakish. -- We got closure on Falacci and -- we were dealt a dollop of happy backstory news about Wheeler upon her return. Some times a cop show is only a cop show and -- as far as I'm concerned -- that can be okay too. AL P.S. The two-minute replay is at www.usanetwork.com/series/criminalintent/video/2minreplay.htmlP.P.S. Wow this one was all over the place. First and foremost, what a delight it was not to see Wheeler and not Fallaci. I thought USA was all about "characters". Secondly, so many suspects, so many characters, so many crimes.
If they wanted to do the gossip columnist, then do that. If they want to do the mobster with the movie producer, then do that. Please don't mix them together.
And what's with the promotional thing that was so unnecessary. Mary McCormack's 2 line scene, Logan's "What happens in Albuquerque at 10?". If they wanted to promote the show then do a crossover.
More tomorrow.

BTW, do I have wax in my ears or did Wheeler say of "In Plain Sight's" Mary whats-her-name: "She's a slut"?
I didn't hear that, right? What did Wheeler actually say?

AL My closed captioning said "She's a slice." I liked this ep. It was thoroughly twisty but never confusing. I thought the denouement was a little weak, but I liked the story and the guest cast was fun. Funny they had that CSU guy mention Governor Spitzer, when the Mothership already did that story that featured a NY governor who was not in fact Spitzer. Maybe CI has moved from the L&O universe to the In Plain Sight one?

Not crazy about the plot but I like watching Noth. I don't miss Fallacci. I felt that the story was almost a combination of two stories. Almost as if neither one had enought to be one episode so they combined the two to make up this one episode. I was glad to be away from the doom and gloom of the G/E plots. I loved Noth when he was playing with the movie honcho and the tape. More ingredients don't make for a better dish.

"More ingredients don't make a better dish."
Very well put, diablo! I agree. This episode didn't really do anything for me, except I did like the scene with Rodgers and Ross. It wasn't gratuitous. I liked it.
But to be honest, my main reason for watching the Logan eps lately is just to see the clip for the next G/E. Sad but true.
On a side note, (maybe should be another topic on another sub-board or something) but I DVR-ed this so I could watch the Tonys. It was nice to see Martha Plimpton up for a Tony as well as Bobby Cannavale (Jo Gage and Julian Bello from The Gift).

I must say, I really liked this one. My only complaint is that it had too many players in the mess. I am not the brightest bulb on the porch, but I had trouble following it at times.
Noth was very good, especially the scene in the kitchen with a wire on. Totally Logan, smart, funny, and taking joy outsmarting the bad guys.
Glad to see Wheeler back, good form. I have always liked her character. It brings some youth to the teams.

Annabelleleigh: No wax in your ears. I thought that was what Wheeler said, too. Glad to get the actual line -- I thought that was out of character for her. (Now if it'd been Falacci's line -- ) (I'm glad to see Wheeler back too!)
Incidentally, did anyone notice something odd about the columnist's-sister subplot? There was recently an article in the local newspaper (and it was probably AP, so others of you may have seen it) about the fact that for some reason judges are trying to keep people from using the word "rape" in rape trials. Didn't get a chance to finish, but think the word itself was too prejudicial or something. Thought that was just a freak item, but did anyone notice that not once last night did anyone use the word "rape" to describe what happened to the columnist's sister? "Something terrible happened," "he bent her over the couch," and a couple of other word-dodging expressions like that. Did anyone else think this was weird?

I feel it is just another way to victimize the victim. What else could you realistically call rape besides rape? I could be wrong on this but I thought the judge banned some other words from the woman's trial also.

When they were running the preview of next week's episode, it looked like Ross has a new squeeze. Wonder what happened to the Medical Examiner?

Ummm, we saw her at the beginning of The War At Home, didn't we? Around the Thanksgiving dinner table? I think she was a brunette but I'd have to double check that.

As posted at my site:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I enjoyed the story but not as much as I thought I would, which is not to say I don't need a repeated viewing.
It was convoluted but believable, enjoyable. I want to see Wheeler's guy and hear Mikey tease her but that didn't happen, but it was cute to see him schocked!
It was adorable to see more film trivia come out of him! You never see that side. I didn't realize he was such a buff.
But- that tummy is back and the face is a little more jowly with gray at those temples again. Still- he looked unusually good in a grey suit in the second half.

I felt that the story was almost a combination of two stories. Almost as if neither one had enought to be one episode so they combined the two to make up this one episode. If you listen to the Peter Blauner/Julie Martin commentary that Annabelle posted, that's exactly what they did. Combined two stories, because each one on its own didn't have enough meat for an entire episode. ;D Blauner was less than thrilled when Martin was explaining how Mary McCormack's character was written in to promo "In Plain Sight." He almost rolled his eyes before remembering he was being filmed. This was nicely light & airy. Except when we were presented Wheeler's tear filled eyes, empathizing with the raped sister. Poor Megan - she really had a crappy childhood. I was hoping for some intimate dialog between Ross & Rogers, but it was not to be. Something like, "You were amazing last night, Danny." I do think Rogers is looking great, what with the pretty makeup & that blond hair is growing on me a bit.
