I was curious--has anyone read the book? The book is a fave, and I also really like the movie. The author (Josephine Humphreys) co-wrote the script, but there are a few differences in the movie (short version: a lot of the sex is cut out). I like the book that bit better than the movie. There are things about it that are just really competent, really neat. Now as to the movie, which features stellar performances by Erbe, whose character is the heart and soul of the book/movie: I don't like it as much as the book. I am always torn watching it between deciding whether I like it or just really like the book and really like KE. I would, however, bet good money that KE read the book before playing the role and adapted the character in the book to the screen. It strikes me as an astonishingly faithful portrait and one of the best things I've ever seen her in (oh, and very un-Eamsian). I don't find the character (Lucille Odom) wholly sympathetic, but I find her very, very real. Or maybe I'm just a sad pathetic fangirl??

I read the book Rich in Love last summer before I saw the movie and really enjoyed it. I always like to read the book before I see the movie- helps to fill in the gaps/details that just can't be covered on film. I bought the film on VHS from Amazon. Deathroe above summed up my feelings nicely, however, I liked the ending of the movie better than the one in the book. It was just slightly different, but more satisfying IMO. It also has a great cast: Albert Finney, the late Jill Clayburgh, Kyle MacLachlan (Trey from Sex and the City), Ethan Hawke, and Suzy Amis (AKA Mrs. James Cameron). Here is moreRich in Love will be shown on the MGMHD channel tomorrow (June 2nd) at 7:45 am

The MGMHD channel is showing an encore presentation of Rich in Love Thursday June 9 at 2:00am. I watched it again last weekend and was reminded of the beautiful cinematography. It was filmed in Charleston, SC.

And Albert Finney in socks and sandals ruined it.
