L&O -- which has a 22-episode order from NBC -- keeps churning 'em out.
More on this one as information becomes available.

This episode could have been ripped from any one of a hundred headlines about polygamist Mormon cults. Particularly though -- and despite the standard opening disclaimer of any L&O episode -- it seems to draw heavily on the life of cult leader Warren Jeffs. For arranging marriages between adult men and underage girls Jeffs has been convicted of sexual assault in Utah and faces similar indictments in Arizona and Texas. "Lost Boys" is the story of two young Arizona teenagers who escape to NYC only to meet up with murder. They seem to be running away from a polygamist cult leader named Wyatt Landon (Warren Jeffs?). While in the city, their paths cross that of a fleeing Landon wife (runaway and "Polygamy in America" author Carolyn Jessup?). From there the plot thickens. The mother lode of fascinating, well-written, real-life stories about Warren Jeffs and his brand of Mormon fundamentalism can be accessed at topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/f/fundamentalist_church_of_jesus_christ_of_latterday_saints/index.htmlThis New York Times mini-archive (which also includes reports from sources such as NPR) appears to be the fodder for this mothership story of "Lost Boys." Hmmm..... Another cult based episode? Their was a mothership episode just last season about cults. It was entitled "Bogeyman," and involved a murder resulting from what a member interpreted from what the cult leader preached. This plot does sound like it's going a different way with the concept. And I think most normal, rational people find cults & the cult mentality uncomfortably fascinating.

There have probably been 25+ cult-based episodes across the history of the L&O universe, DJ; 20 of them likely aired on SVU. ;-)
When I first read about Warren Jeffs I just knew he would end up the centerpiece of an L&O episode. It's juicy stuff for a writer and I imagine hard to resist. "Good" and "evil" come so well-defined and the (real) people involved seem so outlandish they're ready-made for fictionalizing.
Aren't there stories you see in the news that leap out at you as perfect L&O fodder?
