The NEW YORK POST (NOTE--not the most reliable of sources) reports that Mariska Hargarity is considering leaving SVU soon. She reportedly would like to spend more time with her son. The same story suggests (without any real information) that Christopher Meloni isn't eager to go through negogiating his contract when it comes up for renewal in a year or so.

Patcat, do you think this is a ploy by the both of them to get more money?
Meloni would be crazy to leave this gig. I do think that Mariska could do OK in films if she wanted to.

AFAICR from reading her website, Hargitay [thus spelled ... hope you don't mind the correction] usually has her son on set with her, so I don't know about the veracity of that detail. That said, ten years is a long time to have been doing the same thing, I suppose.

Thanks for the correction. I always manage to spell her last name incorrectly.
Again, I'd consider the source. THE POST has a history of gossip mongering, and it was one of the publications that published complete lies about Mr. D'Onofrio a few years ago.

(tangent: I just remember the spelling because it sounds so Hungarian (lived there for a while in another life). Mariska looks a lot like her dad--very Hungarian in the face.)

Ill believe it when i see it, they got a huge pay rise in 2006, when V and K stayed without one, even gave up their annual increase. The crew on CI took a 10% pay cut then too, just to keep CI on air. Seems a bit rich to me if they are hanging out for more money, they don`t have to fight to keep their show on air  |

I think SVU's hey day is over. The show hasn't been in the top twenty once this season (I think...) Perhaps this is also why Mariska is contemplating leaving?

Leaving or not, she has had a great run on SVU which has remained on top of the heap of the Law & Orders.

SVU does seem to have lost the love, if TWoP is any indication. Last month, the show got phased out to the sub-forum like the rest of the franchise.

I was reading the article in Ladies Home Journal and it stated that she might leave because she and Peter are trying to have second child and she just misses being away for her son, August.
