TV 2008: The 10 best actors who won’t win an Emmy

Everybody rolls out the hardware for Michael C. Hall or Glenn Close or Jeremy Piven, but there are plenty of excellent actors who never seem to get an award. Here are 10 of the Watcher favorites:
1. Vincent D’Onofrio (Robert Goren, “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) - Goren is one of the great detective characters of all time, a modern Sherlock Holmes juggling genius and madness.
2. Anna Torv (Olivia Dunham, “Fringe”) - The newcomer from Australia reveals her character’s depth behind the cool exterior. And no one ever looked better in a boxy blue suit.
3. James Roday (Shawn Spencer, “Psych”) - You’d want to kill Shawn Spencer if you knew him in real life, but few TV characters are more entertaining.
4. Anne Dudek (Amber, “House”; Francine, “Mad Men”) - Dudek showed terrific range with two very different characters, the barely-holding-it-together Francine and Amber, aka the Cutthroat B***h.
5. Jennifer Esposito (Andrea, “Samantha Who?”) - A comic delight as Samantha’s morally challenged best friend.
6-7. Wendell Pierce (Bunk Moreland) and Michael K. Williams (Omar, “The Wire”) - “The Wire” produced dozens of memorable characters, but Bunk and Omar were the Watcher’s favorites.
8. Ethan Suplee (Randy Hickey, “My Name is Earl”) - The terminally dumb Randy remains hilarious after four seasons of stupidity.
9. Jesse Plemons (Landry Clarke, “Friday Night Lights”) - Guitar-playing nerd Landry is the soul of Dillon High.
10. Creed Bratton (Creed Bratton, “The Office”) - The real Creed really was in the Grass Roots.
