A riveting story from scriptwriters Richard Sweren and Gina Gionfriddo. The elements -- baby murder, Middle East war issues, amateur crimefighters, and the survival of Jack McCoy's election campaign -- combined to create compelling mystery. And a cliffhanger of sorts.
With so much going on in it, "Crimebusters" easily could have become a muddled mess. Instead it was cleanly told. In the plot the stakes were myriad and high but always clear. Congratulations Sweren and Gionfriddo.
Kudos also to the actors and to director Alex Chapple for the setting the perfect tone and pace.
Best of all, Jack McCoy -- the heart of the mothership as embodied by Sam Waterston -- once again proved himself to be a man of conscience. Our hero.
Note to Dick Wolf and showrunner Rene Balcer: We fans see the price McCoy may have paid in this episode, but we will not stand for an historic 20th season without him.
Waterston has told the press he has always signed a year-to-year deal with L&O. Mr. Wolf, with all due respect: Some actors aren't replaceable. Please make it worth Waterston's while to continue.

Crap! Is that what they're doing with Jack? Setting up his possible departure by having Cutter screw up every case he gets? I also was thinking..."Jack, what happened to your integrity? That's until the ending. I loved the ambiguity of it all, since neither suspect seemed likely. Those women from Operation Molly were hysterical. I'm sure when they aren't playing amateur sleuth, they hang around abortion clinics with "baby killer" signs. Loved the verbal smackdown Anita gave their leader. I believe it was mentioned that the Chief of Detectives allowed this group to help? Why would he approve such an idiotic thing? I know, he's a moron......

I'm sure there's a moral equivalency there The door was definitely being left open for Waterston to leave. And I barely noticed anything about the episode save for SEM's general badass-ness.

Don't worry guys. I'm pretty sure I've heard Dick say that as long as Waterston wants to stay on the show, he can stay on.
It has been years since I have seen the perfect cast on Law & Order. Seasons 5, and 9 were really the only other ones that I would attribute the word perfect to.

Relief on two counts! One, that you are alive & well, Jefferaldo. Two, that Dick Wolf hasn't lost his marbles, and understand how vital Sam Waterson is to the mothership!
