Hi there,
I've been a frequent reader of this forum for nearly a year now, yet I've never joined (beats me as to why). I've always watched L&O: CI but I guess I was never really a fan until season five. I've since learned through the wonders of syndication some of the best written episodes occurred in season 1 through 4.
I'm a native New Yorker, and also help to provide some real world insight into the great city that arguable plays a starring role throughout the show.
I look forward to hearing from you all soon.

Are there many New Yorkers here? I'm always curious. I always try and track down where they film different scenes, and am especially curious to see when they are and aren't factually accurate. ANd I'm sure it won't take a genius to figure out which episode was the inspiration behind my username.

I'm a New Yorker. Grew up in Queens (Richmond Hill and Rego Park). I'm married now and live in Suffolk County, Long island. I'm about an hour commute from Manhattan. I worked midtown for several years after graduating from college. I do make bi monthly trips into the city for pleasure and for taking my daughter to Port Authority for her bus to upstate college.
IMO, the scenes supposedly depicting downtown NYC seem accurate. However, I can tell you that scenes of Long Island are not. The village in "Siren Call" was not an East End village. Probably shot somewhere in Jersey.
It's always wonderful having someone who currently resides or works in Manhattan on the Board. Once filming starts up again, perhaps you could shed some light on locations?

Okay, okay! I swear I'm not Wikipedia-ing. Richmond Hill is like west on Jamaica, along Jamaica Avenue (Jericho Turnpike), right? And Rego Park is more abstract to me. It always seems to blend in with the Forest Hills-Kew Gardens-ish area.
When I was young, I lived in Westport, CT (also about an hour drive), but my parents always kept an apartment in Manhattan because my mom worked there and my grandparents lived there. Needles to say, I was a frequently "took the train to Grandma's," which was just an excuse to go down to Manhattan. I've been living in Manhattan (West Village) since I started college four years ago. When my grandfather passed away, right before I started college, him and my grandmother left me their apartment. God only knows how some cheap brownstones where supposed "poor people" lived back in the day could be so darn expensive now.
As far as my knowledge of Queens and Long Island: my sister plays a lot of sports and frequently has to to travel with her teams over there, so I've gotten my fair share of learning the neighborhoods. Also, most of my family lives out on Long Island, so I visit the area often enough.
As far as which scenes were filmed where, I've noticed that in "Family Values," when the guy goes to pick up his mother and the FBI agents are sitting at the busstop it reads "Locust Valley Bus Station" and the character seems to reflect, the look of Locust Valley in Suffolk County, although I do think the episode was supposed to be based in Queens.
I've been searching for the church from "Faithfully" recently, that has definitely given me some trouble. ANy other places are you all curious about. There are too many to list. I know for sure in "Passion," the murdered girl who was working for "The Village Quarterly" was killed on the street adjacent to Washington Square Park, I believe, so that would make sense. Oh yeah, the cold-open of "Folie a Deux" was shot along Lexington Avenue and 49th street. I found that one out accidentally walkimg down the street the Monday after that episode aired. I'm just rambling things off the top of my head, now, but if there are some specific locations, I'd be happy to check them out.

I know Jamaica Avenue runs through it, since I remember walking the avenue with my mom and sister as a child. Everyone walked - no mom's had cars. Fond memory of eating pizza on the avenue through a small glass window that opened up onto the street. Best pizza I've ever had to date. Can't walk the avenue anymore if you want to live. The area is very crime ridden now. Rego Park IS next to Forest Hills (home of Det. Eames). But it's more working class - not as pretty and upscale. Locust Valley is in Nassau County, Long Island. Near Glen Cove? Not too far of a ride for the show to visit and shoot. Maybe 30 minutes. Sorry Mod's, for the OT discussion.

None taken! We love to hear a guy's perspective on things. You might have to try not to roll your eyes when a couple of us wax poetic about Bobby, though we do try to keep the overt drooling to a minimum.

Let me also second OBC's comments on having male opinions. It's great! The more the better. Especially intelligent, insightful members like both of you. Peter, I'm also curious about the church in "Faithfully." Could it be located on Staten Island? If I have time, I'll check some location info on shooting done in the fall. There's a site that gives LOCI shoot dates and locations.
