Hi All: i saw a thread like this on another site and since we have grown so much as a site over the years with so many new members, I thought I'd ask the same question here to get to know you all a bit better so... Where are you from (state, province, town, etc)? Where have you lived and what do you like best about where you live. Sirenna

Oh this is interesting. :-)
I'm a from Obertrum, a small village close to the city of Salzburg, Salzburg province, Austria, Europe.
Around here, I like the landscape, the "quiet" surroundings, nature all around...
I've always lived here for all my life, safe for the 10 months spent as an exchange student in the United States. I lived on Grand Island, NY then. That's my second home and always will be my second home.

I live in Chappaqua, NY a small hamlet in Westchester County about an hour north of the city. Most famous for being the NY home of Bill and Hillary Clinton.
I grew up in Brooklyn, NY. Bensonhurst to be exact and spent 7 years living in Staten Island after I was married before moving to Chappaqua.
tjara...my college roommate grew up on Grand Island, NY and I have visited her family there. It is an interesting place to live. Most people just know it as the island you cross on the way from Buffalo to Toronto.

Rangerhm--I hope you will contribute your geographical knowledge (and other knowledge) of New York City and its environs to the board.
I hail from Loogootee, Indiana, in the wilds of the southwestern part of the state. It's a very small town, roughly 3,000 people, and I am related to myself. (My parents were 17th or something like that cousins. And it's the sort of place people care about that sort of thing.) I now live in Indianapolis, which could be a great city if its residents would think more about it.

I'm originally from PA - the Susquehanna Valley - but my parents moved south when I was 7 - first to TN for a couple of years, then on to VA. I lived in Richmond, VA from the time I was 9 until I was 23, then ex-husband and I moved to southeastern VA, to the Hampton-Roads area. In 2000, we moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, spent four years there, and then we separated and I had to move back to Richmond for awhile until I got on my feet again. Now I'm back in the Hampton-Roads area again and wishing for my SC home back! (I am a bonafide SBC - that is Southerner By Choice!) Can I just say, with some humor, that I'd have liked to strangle my dopey ex-husband for making me have to move away from Myrtle Beach. Grrr! I'll get back to SC one day....hopefully to Charleston...and then I can visit Idget!

Fun thread, Sirenna! I'm an Oregonian, tried and true. I was born and raised in small town South of Portland. Met my future husband working in the Portland library system and we lived in in the Big City for a few years before packing up and moving up to the Northernmost corner of Oregon, way out in the boonies to try our hands at homesteading. We've been out here 7 years now, and now we're planning on moving back to Portland with our soon to arrive little one in the next couple of years. I've stayed here because Oregon (and the Pacific Northwest in general) is just a beautiful place to live. The landscape and the weather suit me perfectly, the people are friendly, and the city is brimming with everything I want and enjoy. Lots of culture, outdoor activities, hippies , farmer's markets, community gardens and an overall wonderful laid back progressive vibe....I just love it to bits and pieces.

Both my parents hail from the Commonwealth of eastern Kentucky. (Kentucky is technically not a state) Another bit of trivia is that supposedly Kentucky means the dark and bloody ground in an Indian dialect. I love Kentucky and think its one of the most beautiful places on earth. If it wasn't so cold during the winter I would have moved there. My parents moved to Cincinnati after my dad graduated from UK (go Wildcats!) to find a job. Unless you were planning on going into the moonshine business or work in a coal mine there was not much work to be had in KY. So I was born in Cincy and spent my wayward youth in the hardscrabble suburbs. Were one spent one's days deciding whether to go on a bike ride or play kickball at the end of the cul de sac. Yes it was a real white bread upbringing. I have always hated winter and would get awful seasonal depression so I had always planned on moving south. I came to Charleston on vacation my sophomore year in college and fell in love with it. I moved here after graduation and am now patiently waiting for OBC's visit.

I was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. I spent one year living in Keene, New Hampshire when Mr. Moonbeam's job took us out east. The best part of living in New Hampshire is that it was close to Boston. We loved going to Boston. Visited Atlantic City for the casinos. We didn't think too much of it although I did get to see Michael Jackson and Donald Trump getting into a limo together. We had planned to visit NYC, but we never made it because Mr. Moonbeam was transferred back to Indiana. I now live in the city of Greenwood, which is thirteen miles from the center of Indianapolis. And if Patcat doesn't mind me mentioning this, we were at the same indy theater one Saturday night to watch Thumbsucker.

I am from Houma, Louisiana. A fast Growing city, we are getting another Hilton Hotel, just noticed it today, wow we might get a Cracker Barrel! lol Heard someone say at IHop you have to have 9 or 10 hotels to get a Cracker Barrel, hey I would prefer a Denny's. Our Shoneys shut down due to bad business. They have been building hotels like crazy here, since Katrina they have built 6. We are 60 miles south west of New Orleans. So around Mardi Gras we get alot of business. You can get there in an hour or less from here and of course we have our on parades, but since my kids are 20 and 26 I don't drag myself out into the crowds anymore. You have to get out 5 hours or more to get your spot and wait for it to start and usually in south Louisiana it is still hot at that time. If it is a night parade you get mosquitos. Then the parade is over in an hour. I know I am a party pooper, but in 47 yrs I have done enough parading. If I had friends who came to visit who never been, I would take them. Since Katrina and Gustav, ( which some of you know hit me personal and I am finally finished repairing). We have had a lot of people moving from New Orleans. New Orleans still hasn't fully recovered from Katrina, Luckly Gustav was easy on them and lot of people didn't have insurance because they are so below sea level they can't get insurance. Some house there flood when it rains. Luckly we don't get water where I am located, we got the wind, which brought in the rain. But, I prefer Hurricanes over earthquakes and wouldn't live anywhere else. Oh well maybe Tennesse, I love to vacation there. It's so flat here and we only get a few snow flurries every 20 yrs.

I'm jealous, everyone is from the US! I'm from the very little country called the Netherlands! I like it in the way that I'm able to speak Dutch fluently, but besides that I think the country is not too interesting (although I think tourists would like it). And I hate the prejudices about it as well, I don't know anyone who uses drugs, we don't drink much, I don't even like cheese and I've never worn clogs, haha

Welcome Bluefairy! You will find that there are quite a few Europeans on this board, but as far as I know you may be the only one from the Netherlands.

Welcome bluefairy.
I must say that your written English is fantastic. And I'm glad you cleared up the misconception regarding the amount of drugs use in your country.
