A privileged girl, raised on the Upper East Side, now training at Schuman Arts; she must deal with her deep insecurity in the face of the cutthroat dance world. Of all the girls, she feels most competitive with Alona, the star of the group. Desperate to take over Alona’s part as lead dancer, Jessalyn teams up with fellow dancer, Paulette, to train and rehearse outside of class. With their singular vision to train Jessalyn to be the lead ballerina, she and Paulette are bonded and become practically inseparable. PAULETTE BARTOL Female. 16-20. A ballerina with a troubled past. Expelled from her high school with a history of rebellious and anti-social behavior, she is now putting on a fresh face and getting a new start at Schuman Arts dance conservatory. She feels somewhat isolated from the other girls. One of her main creative outlets is her journal, which she constantly scribbles all her thoughts and ideas into. With dreams of escaping into a world where her talents are appreciated, she finds companionship in a fellow dance student, Jessalyn, and is determined to overcome any challenges that face them. ETHAN JOHNS Male. Mid 30s. A handsome and charismatic choreographer. In good shape, he used to be a professional ballet dancer, and now he’s the head of ballet at a dance conservatory in New York. Filled with self-love and love of dance, he pushes his students to be the best they can be, but when it comes to his female students, he crosses the intimacy line. When approached by the detectives about the recent murder of his star ballerina, he’s emotional and upset by the loss, and denies having any further information. GUEST LEAD

RILEY THORSON Female. 16-20. A ballet dancer studying at the highly competitive NY dance conservatory, Schuman Arts. Elegant but tough. She’s disapproving of the cutthroat nature of some of the girls, and is wary to get too close to her competition.
