Did I hear correctly? A promo introducing Sharon Stone as a new cast member of SVU? Or is her role just for an episode or two?
If Stone is indeed joining the cast, that says volumes about how valuable SVU is to NBC Universal, and how invaluable LOCI is. Stone is still a huge name. I'm sure she's getting a tidy sum to be on the series.

i think she's in several episodes.
What apparently has the SVU hardcore fans excited is that Stable and Benson are going undercover as a married couple. Ptui!, as Nero Wolfe said. Bobby and Alex went undercover as a couple all the time.
Sorry--I'm revealing an irritation of mine. I want to stress that I like all the actors on SVU, but I've always been irked by the fact SVU seems to get much more press, and favorable at that, than LOCI. And I find even the weakest LOCI episode--with the possible exception of THE VIEW FROM UP HERE (let's just beat another ailing horse, shall we Pat?)--better than the best SVU. And I find the shipping of Benson and Stabler annoying. Yes, I know ratings and money talk, and SVU has always gotten both. But it still irritates me. But it's a beautiful day and the cardinals are singing.

I'm only interested in this news if Sharon Stone does a scene in the police station like the one she did in Basic Instinct--assuming, of course, she still do it with a straight face and a...well, you know what.

LOL, TG! And you make my point before I even have to say it. Patcat, SVU is always at the top because sex sells. And freaky sex sells even better. The sexual tension between Benson and Stabler only adds to that. NBC knows the average viewer loves to be titillated...think of the first three letters in that word...what a pun not intended! LOL!
SVU has gotten kinkier and freakier over the years...but it's also gotten preachier, which is a total turn-off for me. However, I have seen a couple of episodes recently (which I think were from last season) that toned down a bit on the preaching and just delivered a good story. Would that they could simply keep it that way...

The way I feel about it. CI always seemed like the red headed step child - I mean it got carted off to USA when Wolf picked L&O over CI because he wanted that blasted record that no one cares about. No CI hasn't gotten the props that it deserved (excluding season 8, which is when I really believe the show when down hill.) Some excellent acting from our leads - and who have had a harder time with those out of reach prestigious awards. Generally the awards = popularity, well...acting and popularity. Unfortunately It isn't fair but that is the way it is.
While I like SVU - and now the only non-syndicated show I watch. It's more involved with the characters which is what is 'in' right now. Desperate House Wives, Grey's Anatomy, etc... Plus add to the fact that Meloni & Harigtay are hot and have steamy chemistry. AND that sex that OBC mentioned, it's not a wonder why SVU is more popular than CI.
Personally I like the fact that CI is a bit off the radar compared to the other two - it's like a little lost gem.
What I heard is that it's a guest spot. And GOD I hope so. I can't stand her.

Her first episode is "Torch". She plays an ADA (presumably Alex's replacement while Alex is on a leave of absence?) .
Her ex-partner is Stabler. Apparently, what she does or says is going to have Jack McCoy come calling to the SVU squad room.

I'm all about characters. I got bored with TOS after Lennie was gone and the procedural started to get old. I enjoyed CI because it was different...it wasn't so much about "who" but "why". That was WAY more fascinating to me. And when we got the personal character stuff...I was in heaven.
