So .... the acting is juvenile ! It was so horrible I was laughing at it.
However, since I do NOT like children as "heros" and expected less from the script as it was based on a cartoon ....
I enjoyed the film. I went hoping for some basic entertainment, and some visual art and I got that - PLUS the story line wasn't so bad (badly acted, it was).
Still - I'm glad I went for the matinee price and it has no reason to be in 3D at all.
Anyone else see it ?

I had planned on seeing it, being a fan of M. Night. But the reviews have been so dismal. Newsday (local paper) actually gave it no stars at all.

Personal commentary: I also like M. Night S. and this is why I went to see this.
I did not feel any of his scary magic in this at all. I could not see any of his talent in this at all.

M. Night took a lot of flak for the casting of this film. I haven't seen it and don't follow the series, but I read the article slamming him for using white actors to portray characters who are Asian in the series. I wondered if that would detract from the film - the controversy that is. But from what I've read of the reviews from fans of the series, the majority thought the movie was awful. They didn't care about the whole casting thing at all. They were mostly disappointed that the movie didn't really capture the vision and magic of the series.

i sure didn't care about casting. the acting was indeed elementary; i am wondering why it was not tightened up, why there were not shots retaken, wondering if it was a movie produced as a favor ? this was just not a quality work and this is before you even get to the 80's style dialog which is unrealistic
i never watched the series so even the complaint that it doesn't "capture the vision and magic" of the series doesn't hold as a mitigating circumstance. it was just awful on its own and it had so much potential. for me the bad acting and the elementary dialog were what ruined it for me.
well - i'm done commenting - i just was really surprised at how bad this was and wanted to warn you guys
