Nicole was acquitted of her other crimes, wasn't she? Remember in last year's finale...Eames confronts Nicole's ex-husband about buying her the best lawyers around..and essentially getting her off when she should have been convicted. Legally, Goren CAN'T re-arrest her for crimes she has already been acquiited of. And it would be up to the DA to prosecute her for any other crimes. No doubt, if Carver told Groen to arrest Nicole as part of a murder case, he would. Man, these cops are DUMB for not arresting Nicole, and I agree with some fans.

I agree with Cassie, that Goren might have moved his mother or made some protective arrangements for her. I viewed Nicole's last phone message to him as a threat, I think she will eventually come for him to hurt him, possibly by hurting those he loves. I could see her going after Eames, too. Or maybe his 'absent' brother. Nicole is fixated on Goren, and on how he views her. He is slowly but surely destroying her ability to 'con' herself, if you will, into thinking she is perfectly normal and capable of a normal life, that her past doesn't exist. I believe she will surely try to punish him for that.
Yippee! My first post. I've been lurking and reading for about a week. Love this board and all the insight! Thank you!

willow2tree; yeah I viewed that phone call as a "here I am so there AND I'm gunna get you for it" threat. It was a set up for her next episode. Welcome to the board.

NicoleMarie I agree with you totally......This particular show was good in one way and not so good in another. I feel as you do about Nicole Wallace. All of a sudden her and Goren are buddies....Nope...I find that one a little out of line.....and am disappointed in that ending... Granted the acting was good, but I just can not swallow the way this script went. Why did Goren do such a switcharoo? I couldn't believe my eyes.....Now he feels good about Wallace? Like I said. It's all too hard to swallow.. Oh BTW...When can we expect that cow Nicolemarie? Or have you thought of something a little more appropriate? ?? Well? ??lol.lol Shadow ;D ;D they didnt come off as 'buddy buddy' to me, their relation ship came off as more of an uneasy alliance against a greater evil. Although Nicole tried to change by taking the kid, she realized she never could & dropped her off at Auntie's house before disappearing back into 'the fog' (sorry a little horror humor there LOL). Parhaps that was Nicole's one defining moment was thst she realized that she never could & never would change.

Awww but Kawaiidragon, I think dropping the kid off at her aunts home. was a sign that Nicole was Growing. It showed some maturity on her part that she realized that she might be putting the girl (sorry I forget her name) in a dangerous postion. She wasn't happy about it, you can tell that by her message she left Goren. but it took courage on her part to do it. She was acknowledging one of her shortcomings by doing it

Nah, Nicole didn't drop the kid off at the aunts house because she suddenly had a flash of humaness in her. hehe!
I think she did it primarily for two reasons: 1) She knew she couldn't get away with keeping Gwen and would be the number one suspect if any harm were to befall Gwen. 2) She did it to make Goren look like a dope. She slipped away out from under his nose with Gwen while he had been so confident he had gotten through to Nicole. A payback of sorts, if you will. She got him- again! ;D

I guess I'm just a dope....but I thought "Bubby" (as Nicole likes to say) killed Nicole last season.....or was that just in my timezone?
This is my first post , so cut me some slack!

"Bubby" killed Nicole only in selected time zones last year, so those lucky viewers got to see her on the coroner's slab. So yes, for those same viewers, her resurrection does have an altered state of reality (nightmare) aspect to it.
Slack cut, so it must be time to assemble the chorus.

We weren't so lucky...ending with dead Nicole had the ring of a bad fanzine script...."2 shots throught the heart, good shooting Det. Goren..." I wish I had gotten to see Goren's face when Nicole walked in your version....

Before this episode Nicole killed and manipulated based on opportunity with the exception of supposedly killing her infant child. From the standpoint of detective Goren I understand why she can't be around Gwendelin. But if she's trying to lead a normal life where someone loves her and they're financially set, I don't see the threat of her harming Gwendelin. Argument could go either way here.

Here's a critic's opinion of the episode: The Watercooler originally published December 12, 2005 www.tvguide.com/TV/Watercooler/default.htm?cmsRedir=true&rmDate=12122005&cmsGuid={A65228F3-1D8A-4753-8BCC-F6784E830BFA}&cmsSrch=true(You'll have to cut and paste, I'm afraid) Law & Order: Criminal Intent This repeat of September's season premiere heralded Chris Noth's return to the L&O universe as Det. Mike Logan. His reward: a wobbly desk. As Big Mike got adjusted to his new digs, Goren and Eames sought to bust loopy South African serial killer Nicole Wallace (Olivia D'Abo), who may have poisoned a doctor's brother. I disliked watching Goren one-up Dr. Rodgers (Leslie Hendrix) again during the autopsy because the redheaded M.E. is the unsung heroine of all the L&O franchises. Apart from being a terrific actress who adds cool intelligence to every scene she's in, Hendrix is a far more believable coroner than Jill Hennessy (no offense, Jill, but most stiff-pokers spend their time with corpses other than Woody). One thinks Rodgers would have uncovered the potassium overdose in the victim without Goren's meddling, but then, this is a Vincent D'Onofrio star vehicle. I wish D'Onofrio would just stick to his forte — face-offs. His battles of wits and will with the overlooked D'Abo crackled with suspense, and yes, sexual tension. Hell, in another reality, Nicole and "Bobby" would have made a great couple. Nobody plays mental chess like that unless they're turned on. And why shouldn't Goren be aroused? Logan described Nicole as "beauty, brains and a complete psychopath — my dream girl." That's why Logan is the best L&O cop, aside from the late, lamented Lennie Briscoe. And Nicole is the best nemesis of any L&O franchise since Larry Miller's killer comedy-nightclub owner jousted with McCoy. Plus D'Abo is a lot hotter and has the cool distinction of a hip singer/songwriter dad who used to front Manfred Mann during their "Quinn the Eskimo" days. Trivia aside, D'Abo was utterly compelling, capturing Nicole's tormented and contradictory impulses with verve and sympathy. Here was a woman who yearned for kids (after killing her own), yet realized she couldn't change her evil ways. She couldn't bear to risk the life of sweet Gwen Chapel, yet was far too canny to let herself be locked up for the rest of eternity. Even the demented are capable of good deeds, and I loved watching Olivia screw Gwen's slimeball dad to the wall. A follower of the "Hypocritical" oath, Dr. Evan Chapel planned to kill his daughter to garner her trust fund. "I can always have more children," says the glazed-eyed Dr. Practical. "Where do you get $5 million?" That's what I call "planned parenthood." — G.J. DonnellyI decided that this wasn't worth its own thread, but I thought it was still worth posting.

Thank you. I was wondering if I was the only one who thought Nicole saw herself in Gwen. I think she partly saved her for selfish reasons though. She wanted someone to save her from her father but no one did so she saved another "bright sparkling little girl" from certain death and somehow might have felt like she was correcting the past. It wasn't meant to excuse her past crimes or make us like her any better. It was personal and important to her.
I think so too. I see her going after Eames or Goren's mother. It will be a VERY personal attack, worse than setting up a suicide to frame him with. Or she could try to go after him and Eames might be the one to take her out. (Wouldn't that rock?) Goren is too involved with this monster and his quest to see her pay for her crimes. She could literally blindside him.
I dunno. I like the character because of all the story possibilities, but they need to end it soon cause it does have a soap opera feel to it. Either way, I think Nicole will die. Prison is too good for her.

They aired the 'Nicole death ep' here & I cheered, that was exactly how I wanted her to go down... for Goren to take her down. I'm afraid that Killing her is the only way she's ever going to be stopped, I think people voted her back b/c they love watching her & Goren butt intellectual heads. But now I think that enough is enough. Nicole & Bobby are two good (& different) examples of how abuse & family hardships can effect a person. Nicole allowed it to consume her & ultimately run (& ruin) her life, Goren on the other hand, refused to let it control him. He rose above it & made something of his life, his past still rears its ugly head from time to time, but he always deals with it accordingly. As for Nicole, she had a good run, but I think that its time to stop beating the dead horse.

I think it was filmed when they shot the end of season 4. They usually end the shooting season by getting a few in eps in the can for the next season. The funny thing about doing this is that you can tell when they've had to come back and do some editing, because it's months later and they actors have different hair lengths, styles, colors, and, of course, with VDO there's always the weight. He seems to have been having a hard time keeping it off for the past couple of years.
