Best wishes for all of you born in November. Happy Birthday! According to my calendar, today is Cake Appreciation Day! I think I'll have some of the Black Forest Cheesecake that's in my fridge to celebrate. ;D

Catbird--I'm so glad your concert went well. RT's "Alleluia" is one of the most elevating works to sing, isn't it? You are right, I am blessed to be able to sing for pay, that's why I said I take the cheque and run--before they realize I would sing for free!
I encourage you to keep singing. I did alot of amateur plays, musicals, and concerts with my church and still do them, I love to sing! Think about auditioning for your local professional symphony chorus, or opera chorus. You can get help (for free, or very little money) right there on campus, to prepare. It doesn't pay much, but I already said we sing because we love to!
Techguy--stay the course, you're almost there. Bless you both.

mmmmm nikki, have some for me!... I had some for both of us! ;D Just finished a rather large piece of cake. It was, along with a glass of milk, my dinner. Quite nutritious. The very best to your Katie!

Cake! A very Happy Birthday to the November babes I have three goals for this month. Learn to sew on a sewing machine, brew a lot of alcohol, and learn to read tarot. Not that any of those things has anything to do with the others...and not to imply that I actually think I can master anything in one month, but the goal for the month is to make a good start anyway. (Except the alcohol brewing, I've already mastered that and just need to be productive and make use of all the grapes and apples I harvested).

Trisha, thanks for asking. My dad is still in the hospital. Quite weak. He's lost a lot of weight. Last night, he told me to take care of my mother. He's going to be moved to a hospice soon.

Much love and big hugs to Nikki, Techguy and Mrs. T, and everybody else going through a rough spot.
Cake day? I missed it yesterday, but today I had some! We had some chocolate cake with mocha icing before heading to the opera.
Just got back from Madame Butterfly and was quite impressed. They did a fantastic job on the set (we just smiled at the stars) and the cast was quite strong. Pinkerton cough-bastard!-cough was a guy we loved to hate, and for a tenor he did quite well. (I myself am partial to baritones and basses.) Butterfly was amazing, and even without my affinity for the supporting roles Suzuki and the Consul were both terrific. The little kid did good, not trying too hard to be cute. (You see children, this is why we have Lenny Briscoe's rule, "Cherchez le prenup.")
I have a hard time listening to opera, because vibratto drives me absolutely bonkers, but when I watch the story played out on stage I generally enjoy it. Loved the end of Act II/beginning Part III (humming chorus, instrumental section while Butterfly, Suzuki and the boy were sitting up waiting), now I gotta go hunt down a CD.
Very interesting to see the mix of people. We had the stereotypical little old blue-hairs in fur coats and fancy gowns, but because we have a strong music school right around the corner there were also a lot of college students, in everything from tuxedos and fancy dress-up to scuffed jeans. Some people actually brought little children which surprised me because 1)they were all asleep at the end and 2)you bring your children to this of all shows?
Oh well, I'm babbling. I have got to get work done this week, although tomorrow night I'm watching a Dance concert. I'm sleepy but my roommate will be up for a while packing to go home. Sigh. Night all, take care.
