Steve Guttenburg once again proved why he hasn't gotten a lot of work lately. The guy overacted terribly. Ironically, the one bright spot was the interaction between Logan and Fallacci. I'm not a fan of Witt's, and here she is basically recreating a role she's played her entire life (starting with Cybill), but she and Logan were funny and believable together. I thought the point was he was supposed to look as if he was ham on a platter.

I was ok with this episode. I thought the writing was very good in some parts (the Christine character and the judge were well written), but soapy and over the top with the Hollywood theme. It still amused me, and it was very good if it was intended to be an homage.
I did like the classic CI vibe, and I thought Christine was a homage to the Kathleen Turner type. The PI Hawk - with the fish and the adapters- it was sad. Between that scene and the one where she reads the paper about her ex-husband's new movie and THEN visits him jail, I do think there are both women and men out there like this. Their decisions revolve around self-interest, even where their children are involved.
We needed these scenes in order to see Christine's house of cards fall down at the end. I would think she would be smarter than to blurt out the murder, but she was angry at her ex-husband for bribing the judge after all of her work. They have a hot off-and-on history, so it was possible. But, it was a little too neat that it was blurted out in a squadroom.
That said, Alicia Witt has played the same character for the past 20 years or so - even in Mr. Holland's Opus as well as Cybill. I just saw Blue Smoke again, and she's the sassy arson investigator. It's an ok character, but I prefer Wheeler. Wheeler looks cute as a button, but has an intelligent depth (IMO). Alicia Witt seems very intelligent: I just would prefer to see more depth. I've only seen 2 episodes with her, so I'm giving her 5 to make up my mind.
I though Steve Guttenburg was good for this part, but agree his is like a ham. He used to be in those Short Circuit Films and has a habit of making the same over-the-top facial expressions, especially pouts. I thought it worked here.

I could be way off here, but I thought that the actress might be hinting that something inappropriate was happening between her and Clay Jr. At one point she says something about him doing anything for his mom (don't have exact words-I'll have to rewatch), but it was the way she said it. Also someone mentions how much he loved his mom and she says "you have no idea." It's a sick thought and I noticed no one else mentioned this, but I've rewatched this and I was struck the same way the second time. It just seemed to me like she meant more than just him crying for her (although the other characters didn't react to this). Any thoughts?

Interesting thought, darmok. I do remember that line. My guess is that the boy revered his mom. She was beautiful & manipulated him. I don't think they were ever physical with each other, but he had that Freudian thing for her & she knew it.

Chris Noth really is so obviously enjoying this season and has slipped into each of his eppies like hard-worked feet into favourite slippers. He’s owning each episode instead of merely appearing in them.
I hope these references to Logan’s “wife” where the person being interviewed assumes he has one or a home life to use as a point of reference aren’t portentous. They’re not going to suddenly give Logan a wife to complete his maturing process, are they? Save us from that much at least.
That being said, I’m loving the hints in two of the S7 eppies that Ross and Rogers are looking to becoming an item. What a hoot! Why ever not? What wonderful closure for Rogers after all these years of being mistress to the dead. This I can live with.
Do we know if Logan prefers blondes or brunettes? I’ve never seen him with anyone except Holly and maybe Maggie from mothership Season 1, and they were both fair-haired, if not actually blonde.
And whatever Chris Noth has done with his hair and face… I’m okay with it. He’s lost weight if I’m not mistaken…it could be a “Big” thing…but he’s looking more like the young Mikey with a mature elegance about him rather than a mere mellowing…”Mikey gone metrosexual" sort of thing. Zounds! That’s scary! I’m running out the door…

I'll take it! I've almost only seen him with redheads, at least from my visual perspective.
