Judging by these pix, The Human Chameleon is doing his impersonation of The Human Goodyear Radial. You may be alright with that FT, but millions aren't.
The VDO package deal many (most) LOCI watchers subscribed to was the original complete package, and some sort of appealing physicality attended on that notion. Nothing to do with a George Clooney idealization (Brad Pitt? Ewwww), excepting only that Clooney has aged very well, and ain't so bad a role model for maturing glamourpuss guys.
This "Love him or leave him!" exhortation leaves me unmoved. What superior virtue attaches to being so uncritically devoted to a person who is not your mother, your spouse, your child, your friend - in fact, an actor who exists primarily in a fantasy context? None, I think. VDO hasn't been in an accident, or suffered gross personal misfortune, he's just let himself go.

One can be a "fan" without being "fanatical"!

I hardly describe myself as a fair weather fan. I have been a dedicated fan as far back as Full Metal Jacket. That said, I express my opinion of VDO's current condition from a long time fan's point of view and not from the glazed over eyes of an adoring groupie. I am a realist. If I post a less than glowing opinion of his appearance or his work that certainly doesn't make me any less a fan. I stand by my comments made in a previous post.

I seem to have hit a hot button here. I'm NOT a groupie nor, am I gazing through "rose colored" glasses. I'm a fan, too. I guess it's just that I take Mr. D'Onofrio as he comes, just as hope that you would take me as I am. He's just a guy that is extremely talented and has the misfortune of living that life in a VERY CRITICAL public eye. Would you be fans if he started his career looking like he does today, and maintained that look throughout his career? I find that hard to believe. I also don't think he owes his fans an explanation..........Do you owe those around you an explanation for your weight issues, for your issues of any kind .........if you're perfect and have no issues of any kind, I salute you. Some one made the statement that millions of female fans fell for him because of his abs and muscular look.........what about the men who might feel the same??? Are they excluded from the forum? If a fan is drawn to an actor, any actor, and are fans on the basis of looks, I find that shallow. Yes, an actor does owe it to his fans to do the best work that he can do. Mr. D'Onofrio is NOT an athlete, he does not owe the public any explanation of his appearance. What about the actors with drug problems? ? The ones with marital problems......money problems??? IHMO, Mr. D'Onofrio has kept up his end of the deal. Why don't we on these sites? ?? Instead of all the free will bashing, try something constructive. Talk about his contributions to charities.......I know, it's boring and not as much fun as bashing.

What is conceived as bashing is not what is being expressed in this forum. These are opinions on a topic......VDO. Whether they be the "he is so hot" or "he is wonderful no matter what" gush or a critical view point of him or his work, all are opinions and as such the posters shouldn't be chastised for expressing them. As far as "Mr. VDO has kept up his end of the deal, why don't we on these sites" what deal are you talking about?? There is no deal. There never was a deal nor will there ever be a deal.
Here's reality........VDO has done some very good work. VDO has done some forgetable work. VDO's appearance has taken a definite dive. I'm not talking aging here. What I am talking is opinion......mine....and from reading several of the posts here, this opinion is shared by others. It is not betrayal or disloyal or backing out of "the deal". If this exempts me from the "I luv Vincent" club, so be it. I don't recall ever wanting to join......ever.

I'm speaking of the deal between ANY actor/actress and their fans.
Actor/Actress = product (i.e. movies, tv, stage........whatever) Fans = consumer of said product
I like "Coke". Through the years the company has made a few "scratch-your-head" choices, but I still drink it and stayed away from the sodas I didn't care for. Same goes for "Pepsi" (remember "Pepsi" Clear?!)
M&Ms made a BIG mistake by NOT placing their product in "E.T."
Mr. D'Onofrio has made some wonderful films and some clunkers. He's played memorable characters and some forgettable ones.
I guess I should just agree with the board here and not express an opposing opinion. Damn.........he's let himself go.

All people in the public eye get criticized daily, Vincent is lucky he never hits the magazines and papers like others. The one thing i cant stand is being told what to and not to say and think, i can do that fine by myself. This is a discussion board, people have a right to say what they think of a topic, nobody should tell others otherwise, or make them feel they cant have an opinion. Nor should people be judged by their opinion either, or bashed by others for having one, rather opinions should be respected, whether people agree, or not! I come here to chat with other members on all things, including Vincent`s attire, i don`t want a fan telling me i cant say this or that. My motto is, if one does not like a topic, then stay out of it, but don`t fan bash the members because you don`t like it. Respect other members opinions, just as they do yours.!! The subject is of the actual event, how Vincent and Carin dressed for the night, in contrast to others. Not about all comparison`s of Vincent`s life, i only care about his work, not his body bits, as you made reference to ! Don`t blame and read the riot act to people if he does something to get attention! Of course people will notice he did a Pyle number one across his scalp, why wouldn`t they. Further more, why wouldn`t people notice it and discuss it, as well as the lack of dress code for such an event. I would call any person a hard core fan, and obsessed, if they criticized members in a forum for not saying what that fan wanted them too. To me as a member of this forum, it is unacceptable for somebody to criticize other members for their opinions. You should read what others say, are you going to go everywhere over the net and tell people not to say anything about Vincent, that you don`t like. It makes a topic and thread unpleasant, to have long posts addressed at them by over protective fan`s of Vincent`s. Please consider other members feeling and opinions here, just as others do yours. I don`t expect to come here and read somebody screaming at me because i joined in a discussion, and had an opinion.

caitlen Body bits??? I mentioned "Body of work".
I could say the same thing..........because I disagree with the topic, I'm the one that is criticized and having unpleasant remarks made to them. I've already agreed that opinions should differ, otherwise, it would be a cookie-cutter world.
Hair is just that, HAIR. It grows, it gets cut, it falls out, gets dyed.....
I've seen pictures of Johnny Depp dressed in similar attire at functions and people rave about how "in", how "fabulous" it is. It just amuses me how differently actors/actresses are accepted. It's also amusing that I'm one of the few outcasts here that will express a differing opinion of the majority. So, if the posters here are open minded then, it's should be ok for me to be here and disagree with you. I don't care if you disagree with me......I KNOW you will......It just seems that the scale was tipped too far to one side so, I played Devil's Advocate.

If you disagree with the opposing opinion than explain the why of it not tell the other poster he/she is wrong for expressing that opinion or that by expressing their view it somehow makes them less of a fan. We have managed to discuss religion, politics and umteen other hot button topsics here without dissing posters. And there has been some real back and forth on the political stuff, all without contention because we all here understand The Deal.....ie every poster can express his/her opinion on any of the subjects. I am sure everyone here welcomes your opinions on the subject.

Fuzzy--I've been here for a couple of years and I have found that when there is a difference of opinion on a subject that the other posters welcome that difference. It makes for some very stimulating back and forth. I believe that at some time or another everyone here has been explaining their minority opinion to the opposing majority one. I know I have. Believe me when I say that each and every poster's opinion is welcome......even mine!!! Stay and post....I love the back and forth.

In my opinion, VDO's appearance has affected his current work, at least where LOCI is concerned. That makes it open to discussion in yet another way.
I have given up on the notion that Goren's weight & overall lethargy & depression are a deliberate method acting tool employed by VDO. These photos support that idea in volumes.
Someone suggested that VDO gained even more weight for his role in "Cadillac Records." I seriously doubt that as well.
Fuzzy, I understand your loyalty. I really do. But this Board is a place of open, honest, sometimes uncomfortable discussion. One of the few rules is to respect each posters opinion, whatever it may be. If you do disagree, certainly say so. But do it with facts, not just emotion.
What I hate is the fact that on other sites, any comment not gushing with praise is attacked. To me, that is the worst kind of fan site.

The thread is on Vincent at the Broadway show, not anybody else, not what Depp wore somewhere. It also isnt that you cant disagree, that is your opinion, like i said, all are respected. It is only that you were openly telling members they shouldn`t say what they have said, with the many examples you have used to enforce it. You might not like members discussing Vincent without a halo, but it is their right. All members have the right to an opinion, that is all im saying, and all opinions liked or not, should be supported, not made an example of.

I enjoy actors for their physical appearance. They have to have more than that, but that is part of it. If Vincent had a face like Abe Vigoda many of us would not be here, so why the pretense?
