Quote: For some reason, and I am not sure why, but I like coming to this forum, out of all of the others. I believe its because some of the posters have made me really think on things. It's just that, their is a harshess here. And although I do NOT know Fuzzy personally. I sure did feel and understand where she was coming from, by her post. And I said to her, that it happens on ALL boards, not just this board........ Jetro, some of us have always felt we were NOT allowed to question anything. Anything at all. There is always anger coming at us, when we questions things. (see dragonback post) I don't know why, I spoke up, when I drove by. Like I said, I like this place, cause it makes me think about all things. I just wish we could be able to speak more freely, without being afraid. Thanks for listening Oh and Mastermind, I was thinking about what all you said, and Yeah you got a hard job, and I do appreciate you! All of what you have said here as to feelings of anything not right, is why members should "First" address it with Admin. That is their role here, as well as the Moderators, they are the ones to go to. Not let flying dung all over a good well known of high standard forum such as this one. At times i have felt out of sorts too, but i am not going to drag down this forum because of some negativity, nobody is worth that. I also like to think i can turn negatives into positives, that or just ignore them if they wont go away, works for me Happy posting Cassie

I have some questions.......I am asking them here instead of PM or email because maybe other posters wonder the same things. Exactly how does banning work? Does it just keep you from posting or does it prevent you from reading this site? Do you get notified when you are banned? Or is it just a surprise? This is the only site I post on and I have nothing to compare it to.

I followed the link, too. Quite a bat cave you've got there, fuzzy. The gallery of VDO's nipples was a novel tribute to his talent as a human chameleon. So many variations! Mostly, though, I'm still working on the list of "paid-posters" with fire-related names. Intriguing! I didn't realize that there were so many on the payroll, especially in this recession, lilymaybeme. Assuming I'm part of the cabal - dragons and all that brimstone breath - there's diablo "devil" blanco, Muse of Fire, quietfireca, and (pyro)Techguy. Not sure about Annabelleleigh. Could be Navaho for pizza oven. Do we have a secret handshake? I vote we get a secret handshake. Something involving pulling fingers.

This is the only site I post on and I have nothing to compare it to. Not sure if this is a "general" question to "anybody"or staff But, as far as i am aware, it depends very much on the person owning the site/forum, as to whether how polite they are in the matter. By all standards here, Admin have patience of steel and are everything expected. Any owner/Admin of a site/forum can simply delete, ban or suspend a members account, it is their right It is however how gracious that person is in their persona that bears how they deal with a problem member. Ive known a few people being banned for no reason and never contacted about a problem with them, only not being able to ever get back in. Those people owning forums are the rude end of the fan sites, and clearly should not have one Members are either banned by their IP`s,( meaning they no longer are a member and cannot post, but can still read the site, if it is an "open" forum) Or their accounts are suspended for a short time after warnings, and allowed back in amongst members after that time. Anybody given those chances should be thankful the owners of the forum are so patient and gracious as i said, not many around like that these days Thats my two cents for what it is worth

For diablo: Absolutely, lots of finger pulling, and merry slapping with hidden agendas. If you do not yet have an agenda, just check the back of your cornflakes box where available hidden agendas are regularly listed. About the time warp: You will see that I have revised my earlier opinion of the year. I now understand it to be 2009. Everyone still has my best wishes also for 2010.

I've been around web forums for a long time, mostly on Delphi, and I can say from experience that this board is one of the nicest places I've ever had the privilege of hanging out in. It's no mean feat to manage a web board and our mods do a great job maintaining the balance between the open exchange of ideas and the moderation of posts so that we can all express ourselves freely. I have honestly never felt afraid to express my opinions here. I've been in forums that are so heavily moderated that discussion is almost nil because the host is heavy on the delete button, or locks out anyone who "looks" at them cross-eyed. I've also been in forums where there is so little moderation that they basically become a free-for-all filled with all kinds of personal "wars" that spread from thread to thread and that kind of nonsense kills a forum fast, or makes it hugely successful, depending on how you look at it. This place is well maintained and I'll add my thanks to the mods here. You guys are great!

Oh. . .wait. . .I'm supposed to pull a finger? ? Come on, y'all! You know what happens when you do that! Couldn't we just stick with the secret handshake? ;D

Cassie, we've always welcomed questions. If one doesn't want to post the question to the general public (for whatever reason), we've welcomed them via PM's. We also encourage members to advise us of their concerns regarding posts which might be offensive, etc. We don’t always have time to stop by and read every single post. I haven’t had time yet to digest the post you mentioned. Encouragement has always been given for open and honest discussions. Most of the time, we haven’t had the need to “butt in.” Most members usually step up when they see someone being abusive towards others. Haven’t we always stated that all opinions are welcome as long as they are respectful to the others’ differing views? Diabloblanco, we don't just decide one day to ban someone. (Surely, there are better ways to be surprised?! ) There are numerous PM's going back and forth. Some members make it their lot in life to be insulting to both the moderators and their fellow members. If an offending member ignores repeated warnings, then a notification PM is sent, stating that the member's account will be inactivated for a certain number of days. Members can still stop by and read the posts. They just can't log in and post. There are other ways of banning, where the member can't even access the site. This complete ban can be for a limited time or permanent, depending on the circumstances. A permanent ban has only been made a few times and that too after lengthy discussions amongst ourselves.

Oh my. I guess it was inevitable that simmering disagreements would boil to this site's surface.
Let's recognize this argument for what it is and is not:
It's not about Vincent D'Onofrio, or fan sites, or fan site rules, or posts or posters or fairness. It is evidence of a significant clash of core values. Some members have a view of the world and how it should be which is distinctively different from that of others.
Though we're all individuals here, shared core values and beliefs bind us together as a community. Included among those values are the accepted ways of disagreeing with each other. Some of those rules are written but many have evolved over time and are tacit.
It's very clear to me that the unexpressed but understood rules of this site have been violated egregiously and repeatedly by a few members. These violations have apparently disturbed some -- or perhaps many -- of us.
While certainly one of the most deeply-held values of the membership is the free exchange of ideas, there is a limit to how much divergence from core values this community can withstand. So I make this suggestion: If this site isn't a good fit for your worldview, please leave.
I say that as someone who left another CI site when it became apparent that I was making members (and mods) there uncomfortable. I didn't really belong, and I was spoiling the fun for others. Then I was invited here and it seems that I'm home.
The Internet is an almost infinite universe of communities of shared beliefs and values. There are also many places to discuss whatever aspects of CI or Vincent D'Onofrio one finds pleasurable -- whether it's drama deconstruction or (sigh) nipples. No doubt everyone can find a CI site one can call home.
AL
P.S. By my observation, CI:US has existed as a lively, active forum for a record amount of time (for this series). I find that very impressive. I know it hasn't happened by accident. I also know personally how utterly thankless it is to be a fan site moderator. It's a great deal of work.
No one has a right to join (or post on) any fan site. These sites belong to those who labor to maintain them. In short: It's crazy to fight with the moderators. Find a site with moderators who share your values; or join an unmoderated site; or start and moderate your own site (much harder than you might imagine); or, as many do, simply blog on uninhibited in some corner of this universe. Please.
